It’s kind of like telling a professional athlete, “doing a backflip on a motorcycle is extremely dangerous and you can die!” That statement is true! If you’re doing it on an old worn out bike with no experience or training. But for some guys, they’ve been flipping bikes since they were young kids. Let’s just all stay in our lanes here, if you can’t shoot 1,000 yards. Dont. If you can do it ethically with precision, your opportunity list just got bigger. Congrats to Treavor on the buck and the shot. Incredible work. That is an awesome blacktail.

I agree 1000% (see what I did there?) I think that taking the shot at the rock to gauge distance and holdover was a really good idea too

Big difference that the person that gets hurt is the animal, not you in this case. Also, total lie anyone is capable of first round certainty at that range. 1mph wrong wind call = 6-9” off w/ 6.5 creed (most PRS guys can’t tell less than 2-3 diff). 1/2 MOA gun still has 5.5” group. A SD of under 10 is 3-4” of stringing minimum. Many many more factors and that’s already 16”+ of uncontrollable variability. What I’m trying to show to you is there is not way anyone is even 50%+ confident where that shot was going. Ok on a target, so so wrong in hunting, much less filming and showing the world (to support your rifle sponsorship BTW). We need to call this stuff out

@@benjaminlewiscpt A practice shot doesn't remove all those variables, just some. He got lucky, end of story. What other shots never made film? And then he decided to a) tell the world the distance and b) use it to market (1130 yards SIG SAUER!!!!! in title). Sickening

Everyone on here trashing this shot is what’s wrong with the hunting community. Just because you don’t do what others do, doesn’t make it unethical. It takes a lot of work off camera to do what Trevor did and a ton of trust in his equipment. We need to stop pushing each other down in the hunting community. The outside world does that enough as it is. Awesome job Trev!

When I look at whether or not a shot is ethical, I consider two things 1. Will I be able to make the shot? 2. Will my bullet have enough energy and force to take the animal?. Clearly watching the video Trevor made the shot and the buck was done after one shot. He recovered the meat with 1 shot, so clearly it is an ethical shot.

Agree to disagree with you, hunt trap fish. I am absolutely tired of people saying there is no big bucks anymore. It is because they can snipe them from 1000 yds away. If he dropped in to hunt that deer there is a high likelihood he would not kill it. From watching Trevor on all the born and raised films I know he can hunt. I’m just saying give the query your hunting for a chance and hunt it. Not just shoot it. Again it does take skill to shoot that far I just think it is for the range and not the hunt. I find at least one deer a year pushing that 180+ mark, but being able to kill it is another story. I’m just saying hunt them not snipe them. Not a cheap shot just my opinion.

Then don’t watch. He said the biggest reason he put his bow down was the mechanics of long range precision shooting. I don’t have the time to do that and to go full send into a 1k+ yd rifle. Just bc I can’t do it doesn’t mean someone else shouldn’t. Most people - I’d say 90% of them - watch this video and go “whoah - I couldn’t do that, so I wouldn’t”. 5% of folks will watch this and try to emulate what Treavor did - get into long range shooting, and then go do this. The last 5% will try this and miss. So still plenty of deer left on the hillside.

IMHO I don’t agree with long range hunting (shooting). It is a skill that is really impressive to get efficient with, however…… Part of the reason why there are not as many big animals are because you don’t have to actually hunt them any more. You just shoot them from across the canyon. Is it legal? Yes it is. However it doesn’t make it right in my opinion. It most surely takes skill however to shoot that far. But that is a main reason for lack of trophy animals in some areas!
@hunt_trap_fish

This is such a cheap shot of a take. 99% of us know we’d never have attempted that. And the 1% that think they can shoot that far miss. There’s a teensy-eensy-weensy sub pop of people that can do this. They did hunt that deer, and they found a deer before him they thought was bigger. So in that one unit, there were **TWO** great BT bucks. More than one. So not less animals, but more. If we’re not gonna build each other up, don’t say anything

They took a test shot to specifically make sure that didn’t happen. That’s more than 99% of what other people would have done. The shot is fine - they put in the work, they get to decide. If it’s not your cup of tea that’s fine, but don’t rain on someone else’s parade. If they just lobbed em out there, shot after shot after shot, and the recovery took forever, then yeah I’d have a bigger issue w it, but they didn’t, and they prepared specifically for this situation knowing that Treavor wanted to shoot a great big one. Preparing to do this gave them more options. Just be happy for the guy
@dustinburris8739
@dustinburris8739 4 ай бұрын
@@hunt_trap_fish First off I am very happy for him and happy that nothing went wrong with the shot. But as much as taking a practice shot helps to know where the shot will land, it still doesn't guarantee that during the flight time of the bullet, the deer doesn't move. The flight time alone is what makes me say that such long shots don't have a place in a hunting situation. During the flight time of that bullet there was plenty of time for the buck to move in a way that would cause a bad hit.
@hunt_trap_fish
@hunt_trap_fish 4 ай бұрын
@@dustinburris8739 if he’s on his feet moving, sure. But again, the deer was situated in a tight spot, bedded down, with not a whole lot of area to be “moving around” in. I’d agree if he was standing broadside feeding. That deer wasn’t going anywhere; it was clearly bedded and clearly felt very comfy in that spot.
@dustinburris8739
@dustinburris8739 4 ай бұрын
@@hunt_trap_fish Even with him feeling comfortable in that spot he still could have moved suddenly in a way that would make a bad hit. If he would have done as animals often do and moved his head back to lick at his side it could of been a much different story, with a deer shot in the mouth getting away. Not as likely when the deer is laying down? Sure, but it is still a chance that wouldn't be near as possible at a closer range. As hunters it is our job to make sure that we make as clean of a kill as possible. Myself as well as 99% of hunters have had things go bad at much closer ranges, the chances of something bad happening are much greater at long range.

Everyone has a different skill set. He hit the deer on the first shot. It would be unethical for you, but not for him.

Ethics is knowing the situation you could be in, and then practicing and preparing for it. Ethics is saying “damn that wind be howwwlin - let’s shoot a rock first. Even if it spooks him we’ll know the windage”. That’s doing the extra steps to make a shot like that. Ethics is extremely subjective; even down to the individual.

Unethical for you yes, but not for him, the bucks dead in one shot.

I know you guys are accomplished bow hunters, and respect you as such. But, a 1000 yard shot just doesn't interest me.

Agree. That buck lives there for the reason you had to go 1,100. It thought it was safe. Congratulations

I think you're grossly underestimating the difficulty of a 1130-yard shot. And I'm biased towards archery hunting.

I've killed most my bucks at an average of sixty yards and I love getting close, but taking a long shot like that is an accomplishment as well. Just a different kind of difficult

I have to agree with jason... is it even hunting at that distance??? Why would you even take a shot that far knowing there are so many factors that could go wrong regardless of how good of a shot you are at the target range... I've been seeing so many videos where people shoot an animal 500+ yards and see so many bad shot placements.. some have to put multiple rounds into it.... not very ethical to me.

No, no amount of training makes that remotely ok. Ballistically, if you’re off 1mph on your wind call (far less than human error), your off 6-9” at that distance and outside the kill zone. Straight up wrong to be willing to trade that probability of pain and suffering. We do need to call this out as a hunting community. BRO, so much respect, but it’s dropping really really fast after a very long build. Understand you have to make a living, but not like this

You are no hunting partner. That much is certain. Takes some nerve to pass a buck then take the gun away from your partner after he’s already on the scope. This isn’t the BRO it used to be. Sorry boys, yall lost me over this one.

It won't be long before there is a guy on every knob slinging lead across canyons 1000 + yards monkey see monkey do,most have no business even thinking about it. Ethics need not to be forgotten. Fair chase needs to be supported so hopefully our kids and grandkids have some animals left to harvest.
