Cool to see the updated setup and great video as usual! Would love to see a video on your pros/cons with Ozone 10 like you mentioned and actually would love to see a video about the side of mastering most people don’t see. I use my Hilo as my monitor controller, send AES out to my Dutch & Dutch 8c monitors, monitor outs to HR824s, and line outs to a Behringer Headphone Amp. Control it all with the Hilo Remote App on screen which also gives me control of the Hilo phones out separately.

Very interesting. My slam is my main preamp and I hardly use it's compressors. Must try them again. It's DAC never worked. I love my massive passive but also mostly for tracking since it is immediate and never sounds bad. Love the Tone projects stuff, The unisum is much more than a mastering compressor and Kelvin can bring the transformers into the DAW.

The Kii 3's replaced the barefoots 👀? So, what indifference was found in the IN-8s during your duration of use that prompted the purchase of the Kii 3s? I've read reviews about the sound image being scooped compared to other high end monitors like KH80s & SC205s. Can you elaborate on the experience thus far, both pros & cons of the IN-8 V2s?

Can you talk about how you find clients? I’m tired of having people in my house to record songs.. Its bought me all my gear, never would have been able to afford a massive passive or a Shelford without it but how can I get mixing and mastering clients without recording artist in house. Thanks! Your entire studio is awesome.

You need to update your website! No Slam in the dynamics section! #justsaying😂😂😂p.s. which of your two TC Phoenix or Slam do find you reach for when mastering dance music tracks?
@WillBorza
@WillBorza Жыл бұрын
SLAM is gonna help reinforce the pumping effect if the dance track is lacking there, or the Phoenix would thicken it up if the track is feeling a little sparse or disconnected.

Hello! I have a Hilo and do occasionally clip it. I'm wondering what sounds better about clipping the Dangerous? Thanks!
@WillBorza
@WillBorza Жыл бұрын
It’s mostly just amount of clipping. To me, if the hilo clips very occasionally at a random transient for just a moment but I don’t hear it, I’m not going to go reprint because the red clip light came in in my DAW. But I’m not going to intentionally push 1,2,3+ dBs into the Hilo. I’ve been able to push 8+dB into the AD+ and have it sound great. Ultimately I would back off from +8 over zero because hot damn that’s probably too loud. But it’s nice to know that the point of AD isn’t your limiting factor for loudness.
@Sance21
@Sance21 Жыл бұрын
@@WillBorza I have the Lynx Aurora 8 (n) and the Burl for ADC via AES. What are your thoughts on the Burl's clipping/sound vs the Dangerous? Also, would you swap out or upgrade in anything in my chain on the in-between? Lynx - Iron Age Audioworks V2 EQ (5500 clone) - On the Moon Spacecraft Stereo Enhancer - Louder than Liftoff Silver Bullet - Black Box HG2 - Stam Audio MK1 4000A (SSL Style Bus Compressor) - Audioscape D-Comp (Zener Diode Compressor/Limiter) - Neve MBP II - Burl B2
@WillBorza
@WillBorza Жыл бұрын
I see you have 1 eq, 2 color boxes, and 3 dynamics processors. I’d maybe trade your least used compressor for a 2nd EQ, that way you’ll have 2, 2, and 2. Do you have a way to swap the order of these units or are they all wired in series? If you can’t swap them around, I would stagger the compressors out so that they’re not all grouped at the end of the chain. Maybe SSL first, zener in the middle, and MBP at the end, but pick the order in which they sound best and support each other the most.
@Sance21
@Sance21 Жыл бұрын
@@WillBorza At the moment they are wired in series but I was thinking about getting the Flock Audio Patch as a patchbay. Funny you say that about the 2nd EQ, as that's what I feel like I'm in need of. What do you recommend, like a second alternative to the Massive Passive, which is pretty steep, if any other great choices exist in your view?
@WillBorza
@WillBorza Жыл бұрын
The regular Massive Passive is a bit cheaper and totally qualified to master with. And the Massive Passive really is just a pultec on steroids, so something pultec-y might be nice for you as an alternate sound to fthe 5500 emulation, and depending on who makes it, significantly less than the Massivo.

I've been considering the Bax eq for quite some time. One of the recent videos that was put out by dangerous music was a Bax EQ -> Massive Passive chain. It sounded like it was too much and that the MP could do better on it's own. Could the reason why you don't like the bax be strictly because it doesn't play well with the MP? I have an EQ4M that I want to chain with it and I wonder if using the bax with that is a completely different story and maybe why others like it whereas you don't. I'm also on the fence on what to get next, the bax, or the Convert AD+. I am currently on a Clarett+ and want to go high end. Did you mention +8 over 0? That's a lot! What is it in LUFS? My clarett can maybe get me to -3 in LUFS and then it just doesn't sound so nice anymore but distorts okay. You also mentioned that the Convert AD+ brings an analog feel. I've read that the bax sounds "musical" I wonder which brings the better change to my gear. You have some high end equip. The fact that you dropped the bax and kept the AD+ suggests to me that the AD+ is the better buy in the long run. Would you agree? Also I wonder about that Hilo 2 now and if that is better than the AD+ Thanks for all your help getting us to where we might want to be.

@@WillBorza yes I’ve tried it getting out of rme to ssl fusion and back in and you can only shave 1-3 db , after that you can hear unpleasant distortion, at least in my likings! I use OVC128 and it sounds much better even clipping higher levels like 5-6db!
