Forget about using expensive diamond bits for drilling porcelain , i use these bosch multi bits , they are fantastic , i use a 3mm bit as a pilot and then a 7mm for the finished hole , just remember to use a small spray bottle with water to stop bits getting too hot , i can get about 10 holes in very tough porcelain with 1 drill bit .....! Your videos are great and really help a lot of people thanks .

I had a nightmare drilling holes in a concreate lintel to hang brackets for a blind. Tried for a year on and off. Read forums bought an sds drill, hss drill bits, cutting oil, different brand sds drill bits, had two handy men try, all failed. Was about to give up and pay a blind fitter, when I saw these in screwfix. Bought a 4mm and used a hitachi cordless drill with no hammer action, 10 seconds later it only worked! Best drill bit ever and cost a couple of pounds. Bargain

I just got a set for exactly this. Every time I fit a curtain/blind I seem to hit a metal lintel/rebar or something else, even if I can get through it the hole often ends up too big for a plug. Time will tell if it works.

As mentioned in a comment before carry the right bits for the job. With that said I have ordered a set of these just to have in the box. They look the part and no doubt will pull me out of a hole (pardon the pun) some day. Great video thanks 👍🏻

glad you showed the use in steel, when working on maglocks sometimes the frame of the door is filled with sludge and as soon as you pop through the metal the bit gets ruined, so many ruined bits..these might help with that

They work on steel, but not as good as a proper bit designed for steel, but like you say they are good in the situation that you have mentioned. Thanks for the comment

Today used one 10mm. Verry Good in my opinion. Gets hot when drilling in ceramic and needs cooling, but you don't need to use smaller pilot to start, it goes well!

You should put the least amount of pressure on your lovely expensive drill so I say stick to the right drill bits even though these bocsh bits are good you have to put more pressure on the drill . A tile bit will go through tile easy and a metal bit will go through metal easy and a cheap masonry bit will go through brick easy with the hammer action on . I have used these bocsh bits and they are good but I did have to push hard to get through a piece of 3x2 timber , these days I carry the right bits for the job

They are fine for most materials, but difficult to use on steel. A HSS drill bit works much quicker and is much easier for steel 👍

I used my old Dewalt 18v XRP drill in this video. I have since upgraded to Dewalt XR batteries now, but the 18v drill is not as good 👍

I don't think you're supposed to use the hammer action with these btw. It says on the packet. I've just been using a 7mm bit to drill through 2.5mm thick steel, and it does a good job, but the tip snapped off on unlucky hole number 13. Don't think I can regrind it cos it will destroy the wheel, and it's more broken than blunt anyway... Shame.

You can use hammer action when drilling masonry, it would be impossible to drill engineering bricks without hammer action. Although these will drill steel, they are much more difficult to use than a standard HSS drill bit. You can sharpen these using a diamond coated file (it depends how much has snapped off), or you can get special wheels to sharpen them. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/esCilciqprrPpps.html www.artu.com/grinding-wheel.php

@@ultimatehandyman Yeh I agree you can't drill engineering bricks without hammer action. But I also don't think these are designed for drilling engineering bricks. They're suitable for regular bricks and soft concrete. I'm sure one hole in an engineering brick with hammer action won't destroy it, but it probably won't last as long. Cheers for the link, I think my drill bit is beyond saving, but I'll have a go on the next one!

Cheers, think I'll buy some of these tomorrow. Can you sharpen them yourself? just got myself a grinder but I've not figured out how to sharpen bits yet really.

+Paul J Kimberlee You can, but if you use a normal grindstone it will wear down quickly as they don't like tungsten. You can get special grinding stones for them though!

I use a Die grinder to sharpen tungsten carbide bits and cobalt, there 25.000 rpm and do it easily.

Just a normal hammer drill. These bits will not fit in a SDS drill. Thanks for the comment 👍

Your DeWalt drill is good. Bosch drills are good too, but everybody have a brand what they would prefer against other brands.

In about 6 months I've had a Bosch drill with 2 5ah batteries brushless, the clutch went on that so couldn't tighten chuck, then l had a Makita again that was brushless and 2 5ah batteries that one the chuck was loose when drilling that one went back, thought I'd try a Dewalt brushless and it's been great upto now, was £100 less than the others as well, just one more thing I'd like to say never buy 2nd hand power tools, Screwfix are good as if they break they replace straight away.

Great vid.....but a bit of a shame you 1)don't show the front of the box, so people can identify the product they are looking for on the shelf. 2)Say what an SDS drill is, so people know about their advantages & disadvantages 3) talk about the coolant, ie what else could be used if a can was not to hand, milk etc. and may be 4) show what else could be used if this,if this "dog of no nation" were not to hand, ie tile drill , HSS drill and there advantages or disadvantages.
