Good tip about using a socket & ratchet on the end of the tap spanner! Beats trying to use those silly bars you get with them!

Appreciate the clear and direct explanation. I've been using plastic anchors for my curtain rod and they don't support it well. I finally decided the metal ones were the way to go but the instructions that came with my tool were unclear: 1 drill a hole, 2 pound in the anchor with a hammer, 3 remove the screw, 4 remove the screw (?? Isn't it already removed?). I tried a few things, including looking for a manufacturer video and was about to give up, but then i found yours and it suddenly made sense. I've now installed the curtain rod and it actually feels solid, with 2 metal anchors firmly in place.

When I stripped the last screw of the job, I literally picked up everything within my arms reach and gave each of them a go, then repeated at least once more, before I watched the video and tried the powerdrill idea. It still didn’t work, then I pushed so hard that the poor drill bit snapped.. I then picked up the half bit, put it back in the driver and did again, then it worked!! In the end, it was the rough end of the bit that did the trick, and…never gave up!!👍

Are male and female always the same size once you pick the size i.e 1/2 inch or is one thread smaller than the other?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 2 күн бұрын
Yes, but some threads are tapered, such as BSPT threads. BSPT threads normally seal by applying PTFE tape to them, then once the threads are tight, it creates a good seal 👍

It seems to me that the amount of torque that was being applied , that caused the bolt to snap, is significantly greater than the torque being achieved with these measures. I have doubts as to whether this will work with the snapped bolts that I work on.
