Perfect timing with this video, Jesse. I’ve had my eye on the larger roto hammer for awhile, but I may change my mind now. If used 160 times in one year, each hole would cost $5.31. To me that seems really reasonable. The larger would only be a dollar more. Keep up with the great videos. Always fun to watch.

Thank you! We are always looking for new video ideas. Do you have any suggestions? Yeah, I don't think there's an upside to the bigger one. It's slower, heavier, bigger, and more expensive. I wonder what Bosch’s intended use for it is?

From Bosch’s website, the 850 has an energy impact two-thirds (9.3 ft-lbs) of the 1255. Probably designed more for demo jobs. Both can core up to a 6” diameter hole. I’d definitely rather hold onto the lighter rotohammer while coring horizontally through brick and block. Have you discovered any tricks from keeping the core bit from walking on you while coring through a wall? I’ve used copper tubing placed through the pilot hole. Does a fairly decent job at keeping the hole from wandering to the bottom right. At times it can still fail. I’ve been out of the business for a few months now, but I plan on starting my own company in the upcoming months. Slowly building up my tool supplies. Tools are one thing I spend way too much time daydreaming about. I have a list in my head that I think should be a must to perform an install at the highest level of professionalism. But with the professionalism come a hefty price on the tools. You don’t skimp on your tools, and that shows in your professional installs. Perhaps you could make a video on your go-to tools.

Hey Jesse, Great video as usual :). My go to rotary hammer drill is Milwaukee 5426-21 1-3/4, I also have a Bosch RH745 as a backup.

Thank you! Does your Milwaukee get hot? It looks like the maximum core hole size is 4.5-inches in concrete.

Well depends ...you cant use a small in a medium size job. They are perfect for walls and handy ..

How is this possible when the smaller of the two puts out 2-ft-lbs less (according to manufacturer specs)? Plus the 1255 is heavier. By chance, was there a bias on the spots you chose for the bores? Perhaps the material in the area the 850 drilled was less dense...I don't know. A real world series of tests would sell me on these result much, much more.

By the way, thanks for your efforts with this video....these kinds of presentations go a long way. Manufacturers 9.9 times out of 10 mislead in favor of their bias objective(s)

I think the higher RPMs make the smaller rotary hammer faster. The concrete was from a driveway tear-out, so I'm guessing it's relatively consistent. Yes, I agree drilling more than one hole with each rotary hammer and averaging the time it took to drill each hole would be the best scenario. Unfortunately, basement floors vary in thickness throughout, and it's not like anyone wants us to make their floor look like swiss cheese just so we can shoot a video. Thanks for the comment and the thank you. It's crazy how much time it takes to shoot a short little video like this. Project Farm has one of the best comparison channels on KZfaq. We appreciate any ideas you have for future videos!

@@AmericanRadonMitigation In a past life, I was an editor, feature and ENG cameraman; trust me, I know how much resources these pieces can eat up after everything is shot and strung together. Your efforts are not overlooked by me, I assure you. Just thought something else would suffice and help drive the comparison home with very little, if any, inconsistency, like an old block or brick wall, for instance. No worries though, I'll decide on the best rotary unit for my needs soon enough. Your bit was very useful.

I think you're missing the difference between the 2. It's not drilling concrete. It's the demo hammer/hammer drill function that would set them apart.

Why do you choose to use a hammer drill over a handheld core drill? I’m trying to decide if its more practical to start with a large hammer drill or a handheld core drill.
@AmericanRadonMitigation
@AmericanRadonMitigation 2 ай бұрын
I don’t want to deal with the mess of water you often have with a core drill. It takes less than 5 minutes when using a rotary hammer to go through 4 inches of concrete. I recently purchased a handheld core drill and hardly ever use it. I bought it to core through the foundation from outside, where getting water on the ground and wall isn’t a big deal. It also doesn’t blow out when coring through block like a rotary hammer drill. Whatever you get, get one with a good clutch to avoid injury when it binds.
