The DM-101 is an analog delay, mono and stereo, with 12 modes and up to 1200ms of gorgeous, tap-tempo-able, warm, analog, modulated delay. It pays homage to the brand's legacy with the case design and includes modes such as 'Vintage' which emulates the ubiquitous DM-2. It has full MIDI implementation and includes extensive expression control, onboard presets with a dedicated 'memory' control, and comprehensive beat division choice for the tap-tempo facility. You can choose to have trails or no trails when it's bypassed and did I mention the sound? Oh boy, what a sound. That's the bottom line for me. Your search for the ultimate analog delay might just have ended with this one. Welcome to the world DM-101 Delay Machine. I know you'll be well received.

Brett - If there is a new pedal out, I immediately go and look if you reviewed it. No one reviews a pedal more accurately, more to my interests and tastes, more thoroughly, no BS backing tracks that don't let you hear the pedal itself, and you already did your research beforehand. I've been following you since you started when your duaghter was a wee one, and I can't imagine how she must be an adult like my son by now. Im on the other side of the globe, but you are most relevant in the pedal review to me and LOTS of people all over the world. I have bought, and not bought, pedals because of reviews. I bought this one and though havent had much time to dig into it yet, I am already pleased. Sold off 4 pedals already, and could probably part with more. Now if I could only play a fraction as well as you, I'd be the happiest man alive. Thank you for your hard work, it is appreciated and effects people beyond any scope you could possibly imagine. I ask one favor though - since this reminds me of my old EHX Deluxe Memory Man that sounded awesome when it worked and didn't get all touchy, do you think you could find a setting that you think would emulate closest to that pedal if I added some of my own reverb?

Hi Brett. Great pedal & amazing sounding guitar. I got a 1964 Custom Shop relic 3 months ago. Exactly the same colour with rosewood neck. Looks exactly the same!! Probably would sound as good in your hands also ;) I hope your move is going well. A really big job to pack up the family home after so long. Good luck with everything. Mark.

I wanted to reach through the TV to tweak a knob or two. It seems with the mod depth control a little goes a long way, and honestly I wasn't really digging what I was hearing with it set as high as it was. It sounds like there's a fine line between either adding spaciousness, or wonkiness with that knob.
@nojuanatall3281
@nojuanatall3281 Жыл бұрын
I decided to pick this delay up and that's a fair statement. If you turn the mod depth up high you need to turn the rate down as it does get pretty wonky.

Thanks for the video, Brett. My question would be I have the Boss RE- 202 in front at the end of my chain loop. I have a number of delay pedals for example, the Wazza, UA- Starlight. I am considering purchasing the DM-101 to add to my chain loop, which runs into virious tube amp heads. Is that a good option adding the DM-101 or stay with what I have already. Eventually, all these pedals will end up in a G3S gigrig switcher in a few months. Help would be appreciated 👍🏻

Does anyone know the answer for this, do you still get trails if switching Presets. I understand you get trails switching the delay on/off, but does switching pre-sets provide trails?

Do yourself a favour and get a replacement! I had mine for a week now, and I can safely say it's one of the best pedals I have ever heard, for sure the best analog delay pedal by far. The sound is pure magic. Judging from the videos I had seen before buying it, was ready to accept a small percentage of clock noise or some little background hiss when engaged, since I liked the idea of a stereo analog delay so much (and with all those extra functions!). Well, maybe I'm lucky, but it turns out that my unit has ZERO noise. The way it leaves the signal absolutely intact, providing the most organic bed of ambience I ever heard in a delay pedal, is unparalleled (and I have tried a plethora of amazing delays over the years, modern and vintage). All the little quirks you normally associate to an analog delyay are just not there. I love how much it respects the original signal. You almost feel it physically. It's clearly honeymoon time, but I've got the feeling it's not going to end any time soon.

Classic mode has 1200ms of delay? I thought the Classic setting would be based on the DM-1 that the housing of the DM-101 is based on. No DM-1 model is a huge disappointment.

This pedal has a ton of features. I think purely on sound off of a crummy KZfaq video, it sounds okay. Haven't heard a demo yet that blew me away on sound alone. Features yes. Hoping it's way better than the RE-202 I paid $400 for. I find that pedals sound meh at best.

Ok it's wow factor and we DO need a couple more steps to create the perfect analog delay, I'm impressed and all - but I'm reminded of a scene from the film "Fierce Creatures". Michael Palin's zookeeper (he does Arachnids) asks Kevin Kline's barely disguised Rupert Murdoch+Kerry Packer billionaire, rapacious capitalist ("Neville! Back!" - if you've seen it then you know) character the burning question "How much more until you've got.. well, enough?" Of course the ersatz Murdacker billionaire simply doesn't understand the question. I fear we may be heading down that road as gear-heads at the cost of - or perhaps as *compensation mechanism as our beloved art-form dies a slow death* And I look at my pedal cupboards and I ask myself Palin's question and part of me simply doesn't understand it. The other part simply wishes it was 1965 and Dylan was teaching Lennon how to inhale, Wilson was brewing up harmonies straight from the Divine, Davies was gazing over that sunset in Waterloo, and a few young guys named Page, Hendrix, Gilmour, Clapped-Out etc were wondering what might happen if you played really loud with a wah, fuzz, and a tape delay - and oodles of imagination and risk-taking. The world changed so long ago, I'm not an idiot. But Neoliberalism didn't kill Joy Division or EVH, so why is it slowly strangling us with ever more dazzling variations on a pedal-theme? Pedals won't save us from artistic barbarism. So write a piece of music today, and keep writing. Stay off ebay and Reverb and only watch Burgs and Andy on the toob. Seriously. They actually inspire. And maybe don't buy.. this? Just maybe. I love you guys. It's just something I have had on my aging, decaying mind for some time. If our artistic roads all lead to the Rome of pedal and other gear demos (admit it, you wish you were Andy, Burgs, Mick & Dan, go on it won't hurt - much) then what becomes of the broke and heartfelt artists we all were, and many still are? ChatGBT? AI Taylor Swift? Like the old Fashy bugger said, "It's so lonely on a limb". We need new ideas, we need em yesterday. "Without music,, life would be a mistake." Some other proto-Fash said that, but he wasn't wrong. So write a song. And maybe.. do buy this one? Just maybe? You see what I'm getting at, don't you? Chasing tones forever yet never creating any of our own. Peace. Love ya Burgs. Peace.

Caveat : There are rare exceptions. "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" is, perhaps, one of them. However, they risk straying into just slowed down Mercury Rev by way of The Velvets & Sonic Youth. That's ok. It's all borrowed & stolen, anyways. Listening to this extraordinary piece of equipment and following it up with a piece of music like "Peasantry or: Light! Inside of Light!" gives me hope and a temporary sense of respite from the slow cancelation of the future (Mark Fisher). I forgot love. Peace and love. And Rock and fkin Roll. Amrite?

I stopped after boss dd-200. Its very costly to keep getting delay pedals all the time. I reckon these are amazing, but more and more outstanding delays will be released all the time and the cycle continues. I just cannot afford to keep getting more new pedals even if they're better than my boss dd200. For me I'm settling with boss dm-200.
