It sounds good and has good features. But, for the price i would lean more toward a Blackstar Sonett 60 or 120 or even a Blackstar Acoustic Core.

Advantages of the Boss AC22LX is battery power as well as the built in looper and Rhythm box and those 5 different sounds.

@@JohnPaulMusicUK Blackstar does have a power bank for a little extra to solve the portability issue and Blackstar has built-in blue tooth and audio processing. The Blackstar Sonnet 120 has 120w of power.

Thanks for presenting this new option to us, and doing so in a meaningful way for us as players and singers. (Always hate the manufacturer‘s ads and demos, that normally show next to nothing about how the speakers actually sound). So how does one switch to the desired rhythm in a live setting? Can it be done with a footswitch? And if not, I assume with the Bluetooth app? If with the app, can setlists (with different consecutive rhythms) be set up so one can easily skip to the next song?
@JohnPaulMusicUK
@JohnPaulMusicUK Жыл бұрын
Yeah so, you can attach an FS-6 footswitch to access the looper and the rhythm box. If you get the Bluetooth add on adapter, you can use the FS-1-WL footswitch, giving you more buttons. 👍 Yes, you can save 15 different presets with rhythms and feels. 👍

@@JohnPaulMusicUK Great that the speaker can be made more functional with these added switching options. If only the looper had an Undo… But what the heck: I have enough busking amps anyhow, and if I needed something fundamentally different from what I‘ve got, I‘d try the new Kombo Audio.

Great demo JP. None of these BOSS AC'S have tweeters so backing tracks lacks top end just not as clear as a typical acoustic amp with tweeters, that's why I sold my ac40 and any kind of bass would overload the cones.

That’s interesting. And the fact it’s 2x5w it’s not a lot before you can distort the speakers. This amp is certainly for the acoustic players.

Hi, great playing and singing. Can you please answer these three questions: 1. Can you recommend this amp for busking? 2. Will it be loud and clear enough? 3. I'm playing percussive guitar and wonder if the low frequency range on this amp is good enough to produce a decent bass kick from the guitar? Would be very grateful for any answers you can provide.

Hello. This amp is quite quiet as a busking amp. Yes, you could do it and the sound is very clear and has rich frequencies thanks to the air feel options. However, it depends on the size of the area you want to bus in. It is certainly clear enough, but it’s dependent on whether it would be loud enough. The only way you would know if it’s right is by try and get yourself in the location that you want to busk. With this coming out in August last year, if I was choosing a speaker to bus with now, I would be looking at the Mackie ShowBox, Mackie GO or the Boss Cube Street 2. (I’m a big Mackie fan). Please remember this is a speaker with 2x 5w Speakers. It doesn’t take a lot until it is distorting at the high end. Being 100% honest about this I feel like this speaker was designed for home use primarily. Yes, I did go out and dust with it and it certainly sounds bigger than 2x 5W speakers. But for the price it is at the moment I would want more. Best advice? Go and try one or get one from somewhere that has a good returns policy.

@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks a lot for your thorough answer. I really appreciate it. I`m glad to hear you are a Mackie fan because then you might be able to answer if the Mackie FreePlay Live is any good and if it would fit my criterias as mentioned above? I assume it`s not as good as the two models you suggested but they are too heavy for my needs right now. If weight was not a concern then I would use my AER mobile 2 for my preferred sound quality. For my busking adventure I need a small and light weight amp around 4-6kg that I can have in my checked in luggage while flying around Europe with my Furch Little Jane with Baggs Anthem pickups as my ultimate light weight and portable busking set-up. Hence the Mackie FreePlay Live seems to fit my bill in terms of more power and being more loud while being small and only 4 kg. I just haven`t found any good live demos on KZfaq showcasing the frequency response to see if it will work well with my bass kick in my percussive guitar playing. And no stores in my country has this amp for demo. What are your thoughts about the Mackie FreePlay Live? Thanks again, you rock.

Although the drums sound quite bland, I can imagine them suiting loads of acoustic stuff BECAUSE of their simplicity. I had the BOSS amp model previous to this. It was ok, but not loud enough. It felt more like a rehearsal tool rather than any kind of gigging amp.

I’m a flamenco guitar player and been using the Roland AC-33 for 10 years. It’s a very compact and lightweight stereo amplifier perfect for acoustic guitars and in my experience it sounds better than Bose S1 Pro and JBL EON One Compact, specially when you do the Picado/Rest Stroke technique. The speaker last around 7 hours with Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries at 70% Volume that is enough for small gigs (20 - 30 pax indoor). I just found that there is this new BOSS AC-22LX and I wonder if it has more volume and better quality sound. Is there anyone who already got this new amp. and compared with the Roland AC-33 in a live performance?
@JohnPaulMusicUK
@JohnPaulMusicUK 6 ай бұрын
The AC33 is 2x 15w or 2x10w when on batteries. The AC-22LX is 2x5w so you will find the sound not as loud.. however, the five Air Feel settings might still sway you. My advice is go and try one in a store or get one with an open box return policy. Amp tech has come along way and it doesn’t necessarily mean that more watts equals more volume with modern eq and compression. Best to try it for your style of playing and compare. Would love to know what you think once you’ve tried it. 👌

Thank you for the review John! The modeling features of the acoustic amp portion are very appealing. What did you think of volume? It seems like 10 watts driven by 5" speakers would be very underpowered (line-out to bigger system notwithstanding), even as a monitor--it's really my one hang-up on what otherwise seems like a great unit.

Yeah in todays market I would have liked to have seen this little soul a bit bigger and compete with a few other.. maybe 30/40w. Output isn’t massive but 5” could have easily been 8”

Thank you for the great review. I bought one based on it but unfortunately I had to send it back. The one I got was a piece of junk. It was not the amp you were using! I ran it across 4 acoustic guitars and the sound was terrible, I couldn't get the volume above 50% without something rattling inside no matter how I gained it. I couldn't hear it over my guitar. The airfeel settings were nice but 10Ws isn't enough to do anything with it given the tinny sound and being unable to turn up any volume. I think they put a very cheap speaker in it or there was a problem. I also liked the percussion system. I tried recording with it and got it to work but you really need the BT upgrade to control the line outputs easily. For some reason the B or G strings on all my guitars were way too loud and I could not adjust the equalizer(s) enough to eliminate feedback/uneven tone. I don't have that problem on other amps. It definitely needs some sort of feedback system. In my opinion it isn't a serious amp and not worth $400. A Spark 40w costs $100 less, is a much better small amp and it has BT at no extra cost. I use an acoustic singer live pro for small gigs and I think airfeel would be tremendous on that. I don't know what's going on at Boss but I was let down by the poor quality and value of the AC-22. This amp makes the AirFeel a gimmick rather than a serious offering to musicians. I hope others have a better experience than I did. Cheers!

Thanks for the awesome clip! Have you compared this unit to, say, a Boss Cube Street II? I have one of those and this new AC-22LX might be an updgrade (I don’t need the electric guitar modeling). Its construction is different (wedge style vs traditional amp) and AC’s speakers are slightly smaller (2x5” vs Cube’s 2x6,5”) I’m worried I might lose some bass frequencies. Not sure though. I have tried the Acoustic Singer Live LT from Boss but that’s another beast entirely!

More than welcome. Just remember that this is a 10w amp but with very clever acoustic modelling. There is definitely some range there and some bass to it. 👍🏻 I would advise getting one somewhere where you know you can return it if you are unsure. Yeah the Acoustic Singer is certainly different. Would have liked to have seen two versions of this. One this size and one like the Street Cube EX, 50w with a bigger wedge but I suppose it’s for a slightly different market than just buskers. It’s a great little amp and used for a few hours in different locations which was fun. If your going for it, Certainly get the Bluetooth adapter as it unlocks so much for the internals and an FS-6 pedal to control the Looper and the Rhyrhm Box. 👍🏻

Its a nice amp for practicing at home. But does it produce loud enough sound to give performance in stage (like in college auditorium or in a programme) ? Because I want to buy it but don't know whether it can produce loud enough sound to be played in stage. But yes I am a student who has completed Grade 8 in Rockschool Guitar and not so professional.
