I own both an original Tube Screamer and also the Boss Super Overdrive. I personally prefer the Boss Super Overdrive, because it has such an appealing, smooth and responsive tone, which is so tube-like, and which I never tire of!

Thanks for your comment - that's really interesting! It's surprising how great this fairly inexpensive pedal sounds!

I’ve had a TS-9 for many years but never was totally happy with it. Then I tried the SD-1 and preferred it. The EQ curve is more pleasing to my ear. I also like the sound of asymmetrical clipping more than symmetrical clipping. I still have the TS, just in case.

I also have an ibanez tube screamer mini and boss SD-1. I use TS almost always with 50% tone, 0% gain and 100% level, and after it, I run SD-1 with maximum drive. With noise gate on a clean channel, it gives a great lead tone in my view. I find SD-1 better in a few ways because it is cleaner on minimal gain and dirtier on maximal gain than tube screamer. But, unlike SD-1, I use TS all the time, and I don't turn it off even if I'm not at home for a weekend :D

It's the best "live" overdrive I've ever played. Where many overdrives sound pleasing in my basement then I get out on a stage and they lack that mid that cuts through the mix.

The SD-1 is a true classic. And if you love the SD-1, wait til you try the OD-3!

I've not tried the OD-3, but after a quick search it sounds interesting! How does it compare to the SD-1?

For me the od-3 doesn’t sound as good as the sd-1 and I can’t justify the price jump.

The od3 is another great pedal. It is different and has less of a mid boost

I just got one today. I've got a 14-pin Boss OD-1 on my board, i think this is better. I know they do different things, but i think this is my new favourite pedal (and i also have a Klon KTR - but this just does something DIFFERENT). An awesome pedal

They have the same topology and opamp. It's just a few component swaps to turn it into a ts9 or ts808.

@ConorRocksYT

From what I understand they both have very similar circuitry - but I've not used a TS808 to compare them! The SD-1 has been great for me - really reliable and a great sound (and about half the price of TS808!)
@michealclark3495
@michealclark3495 Жыл бұрын
I’m the same. I sold my 808 after getting this. It’s similar to tubescreamers however the clipping is different. I found it to be not quite as smooth as the TS808, the clipping on the SD1 actually sounded more natural or “amp like” than the screamer, yet still had a similar eq characteristic.

From what i saw and heard in AB vids, the TS is 'smoother', and the SD is 'edge-ier'. Which is why i chose SD for my Strat into PRRI. But funny thing is i find myself pulling out the LesPaul more now to pair with the SD thru Prince, maybe coz i like a little harder rock? Also ive heard the SD has (a little) more gain than the TS. I was also about to buy a Marshall Guvnor reissue or BluesBreaker reissue. But in the shop i paired an SD1 with a GE7, and compared it against both Guvnor and Bluesbreaker separately... with Strat and 65 Prince. To me, the SD1/GE7 left both the marshall pedals in the dust ...it was a significantly more appealing sound, and that was only using the 1st (Bass) slider on the GE7, to add some bottom to match the Drivemaster/Guvnors EQ. Only moved that dlider about 1/3 of way between flat and full. With another 6 bands of joy to explore at home.
