The random hole in the shower is to able to turn on the shower with the door closed, so you can wait for the water to reach the right temperature before stepping in……..

The metal tube in the toilet acts as a shredder so toilet paper doesn’t clog the pipes. They had those in the hospital I was in, with signs plastered on the wall telling you to NOT put your hand in the toilet.
