He either signs with us(more likely) or we deal him sometime between this summer and next season. Oil won’t let him walk for nothing and they will make sure they get top dollar for him in the trade market.

Even as a german Oilers-fan I know neither him or Mark Spector have anything going for them, other than a competition for the most stupid questions ever! My take on Leon: If the oilers go far in the post season this year there is no way he doesn`t re-sign. Maybe not for 8 years, but I can see a 4-5 year contract done easily. He`s commited to Edmonton and McD and I believe he is no money mercenary. Yeah, money will matter, but it`s not gonna be the be all end all!

Maybe you're right, Leon would screw himself out of a cup over something like that. Toronto just took over the top spot for highest revenue team. New York Rangers have been at number one for over a decade, leafs and habs have been #2 and #3 over the same 10+ years It's about pucks, not bucks. I'm not going to even begin to guess where any player is going to end up signing.. What I am confident in saying is that no player, Mcdavid and Drai especially are going anywhere that they don't have a solid chance to win a cup. So you're automatically shortlisting to about 7 teams, the Oilers being one of them at this point. I could see Boston as a possibility, for sure. However, there are 2 points that need to be made. I seriously think that there is at least a long talk between Connor and Leon before ANY decision is made by either of them. Not only are they among the absolute best in the league alone and together, but they are even almost inseparable off the ice. And secondly, the teams that are cup caliber teams are already up against the cap pretty tight. 13-15 million a year isn't likely unless he goes to a bottom feeder like the sharks, ducks or god forbid blackhawks...

The Bruins do not have the cap space, is they want to sign Swayman long term as well. They would have to somehow sucker another team to trade Coyle to. To get rid of Coyle the Bruins would probably have to package a first round pick like the Backers trade.

Don't know Leon well enough to get in his head but it seems at this point he'll be looking for a 7-8 year deal that takes him through 36. If McDavid wants him in Edmonton and he wants to stay, he's going nowhere. This isn't Sidney and jake. These guys have Stanley cups in their futures. I still believe the Vegas franchise expansion interrupted their trajectory.

I have played many years of GM mode. The only time I moved Draisatl in a trade was in like 2015 or so. Nowadays its not worth trading him. His value is so high that it makes sense to keep him FOREVER. Move every single draft pick available to build a great team already dammit and we wont lose any of our stars to shitass american teams.

Look, here's the deal......Edmonton would rather trade him (unless he has a no trade clause) then to keep going into free agency and get zero return on this guy. So if a trade looks to become more likely, who is Boston going to trade for him not to mention the complete lack of draft pick assets over the next few years. So when it comes to trading him, Montreal is in a much better position with so much young talent on cheap contracts, perhaps add Caufield to the mix, and some draft pick capital which helps Edmonton who also doesn't have any draft picks over the next few years and their rebuild get's off to a much faster start then Montreal's did. Only thing for Montreal is guys like Pearson, Armia, Anderson, Gally, Dvorak all have to go one way or another by this time next year to even think Habs ownership will pay 14million for a guy. But in regards to him staying.....If Edmonton get's bounced out early again this year and next then yeah I see him wanting to leave.

He should be no one C someplace else or he stays being Sideshow Bob for the rest of his career. If he leaves which I doubt Washington or Boston would be a good landing spot. If they somehow would manage to win the cup he stays for life for 9M due to German Shepherd loyalty.

I'm not so sure he would even go to Boston. Leon has class and I just don't see him taking any price to immerse himself in trash like that. I mean those fans cheer for Marchand with his face licking and other trashy antics. Naw man, I just can't see it, almost anywhere but there.

I don't see it. Boston wants a Bergeron type. They want an elite two way guy. Going with Draisaitl and Pasta as the core would require a radical re-evaluation of what the team is and how it's built. Now that would be a year you could do that but I just don't see it. I think Boston is going to make a push this off season to get the best d they can. Hanafin, Skjei or someone else, and I think they are going to try had to get Lindholm. I don't see them then making another radical big splash the year after. Having said that a lot will depend on what happens in this off season. If Boston can't get Lindholm and Poitras or Merk don't make big strides maybe you see them change gears and try to pick up an elite offensive dman and have more segmented lines. Lines that are offensive only and defense only instead of being built as a team full of mostly two way guys.

@@exturkconner They have lohrei in the system to take the top 4 spot and Marchand is getting older so they’re gonna need a top six LW and 2nd line RW and even if lysell eventually becomes one that’ll take time If they want to be a contender they’re gonna need pure snipers besides pasta

@@edited1325 They 100% don't need any wingers next year. You still have Marchand and Pasta. If you get a 1c you can bump Zacha to a wing position which he's more suited too. Even if you walk away from DeBrusk which they probably aren't going to do you also have Poitras, you also have Lysell, you also have Merk, you also have Farinacci. Thinking none of those guys is going to make the big squad doesn't really make sense and despite most of those guys being centers in the AHL almost none of them project to being NHL centers. Most of them will be wingers. They have no shortage of forwards. Assuming Lohrei is going to be a top 4 next year is a jump. Gryz has been bad this year, Forbort was bad this year and Lohrei couldn't crack the top 6. I'd like to think Lohrei will make the step but it's yet to be seen. Much more likely they are going go after a Hanafin or a Skjei and Lohrei will continue to be a bottom pairing guy.

The oilers will front load Drai and keep him for 12-13. Keeping Leon is the key to keeping Connor. Nurse will have to go.

I like how pundits totally disregard Connor and Leon's integrity as if money is EVERYTHING.....If MacKinnon can take a hometown discount so Colorado can acquire the needed pieces to win a Cup, I like to think Connor and Leon are made of similar stock. Sure they can go to a team who will pay them 15-20 million a year , and those teams would mostly be the current bottom feeders imo, but winning a Cup within their playing careers with those teams would be very low. Even if they did go to a contending team like Boston , the team would be so cash strap (cap hell) after that they'd be unable to acquire the needed pieces to contend for a Cup. I predict in the end Connor and Leon will take a reasonable amount/home town discount if you will so their dream of winning a Cup in Edmonton will become a reality. Furthermore, I'm sure both make extra income with endorsements and such that signing a home town discount wouldnt hurt their personal income that much. Money is not everything!

Boston ? what does Boston have to offer ?? besides money.. I would guess he would rather live in a nicer city not a worse city.. Up to him but better options for a great player.. If I was him I would try and stick with Connor and his team right now.. I wish him the best whatever discission he decides. He is respectful enough for me say, " All good", we understand. Edmonton is not a nice city per say..

If he wants +14 were better off trading him away Jesus. Mcdavid sure can demand that but drai imo no. We're (oilers) better off finding a Bergeron caliber player for anything near that. They need better defensive forwards rather than more and more and more firepower.
