Went "offshore" out of the ICW about 95 miles today from Beaufort to Southport...landed at St. James Marina to hunker down for the storm tomorrow. Ducked in to the ICW when the chop picked up...worked out well.

Those Whalers make great inshore boats. I can feel the disks in my spine compress every time the bow hits wave or chop. Lol

standing position while cruising, and learn to time/angle the chop. know how to spot when an unavoidable slam is about to occur, keep your knees bent and feet positioned shoulder width apart with feet staggered slightly. i grew up with a 13' 50hp super sport which i still have and also have a 17' montauk 90hp. you can't cruise as fast in heavy chop as you would a larger boat, but you'll damn sure burn less gas and have more fun. also, you cant sink! :)

So cool..I will never be rich enough for a huge boat or afford the fuel. But I love the idea of traveling by boat and camping on board or marina hopping. Great videos. They definitely help keep my dream alive! Stay safe and have fun!

I wanted to do a trip similar to this in my 21 revenge years ago but stay aboard and only hit land for fuel and a few supplies. My back won't let me stay aboard now but tempts me to get another 17-21 whaler and at least make the trip. Kudos to you.

@@3DSAILOR you're very welcome, you have a new subscriber for sure. I lived on L.I from age 7-13, spent a lot of time on my great uncles 31' pacemaker trollin umbrella rigs for blues out on the sound. Fished a lot of beaches with my dad too, lots of good memories fishin those waters. I may binge watch your entire trip from start to finish when I make it past the fishin and other various vids you have. I'm in se ky now and do love it here but its the first place I have lived away from a coast and I miss that very much.

Just found your adventures and am intrigued. I have been looking at buying a Grand Banks Trawler to do the ICW but costs would be a lot. I considered doing it in my Mako 171 but thought it would be too small. You are proving it can be done! I will be interested in watching your other vids and learning more. Would be fun to do it with two small boats.
@3DSAILOR4 жыл бұрын
It can be done but probably more comfy in a grand banks :) - - - it would be a hoot to get a few small boats to do an adventure like that!

hi sailor buddy, i have been enjoying your adventure and i have a question if you don't mind to ask, how did you plan your day and where did you normally stayed for the night, obviously you didn't have any comfort in that whaler. Thanks hope you had a great trip, now im going back to your show.
@3DSAILOR4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan... Usually the night before I decided on a destination (of course subject to change) about 100 miles away. I would plot my route using the Navionics app and then review it zoomed in to make sure it was safe. When I knew I would make it I would reserve a marina and a hotel room. (usually done by a friend from home) I did have a blowup mattress and tent and intended to sleep on board but was truly exhausted at the end of each day and wanted to do real time KZfaq videos which would have been nearly impossible without the hotel room... Glad you are enjoying the adventures. All the best, Dale

Yeah, would rather have a Grady 33 but the Whaler is what I have at the moment. They do slam a bit if you don't know how to run them but I like the fact that they stay on top of the water...never once had a drop of water come over that bow no matter how big the waves.
