It amazes me how the Nutcracker has some of the best-known tunes of all time, and yet also contains this piece, with a melody so mysterious and elusive you can’t get it in your head, no matter how many times you listen. It suggests the Frankincense and Myrrh of the Magi to me, and confirms Tchaikovsky is master of the catchy AND uncatchy tune. And done full justice by the dancers. Wonderful.

wow, refreshing to see professional ballet done on flats! the art of ballet is not only about dancing on pointe.

Agreed! She is so elegant, no need for pointe

Yes! When dancers have such beautiful feet and high releves you don't miss the pointe shoes. She doesn't need them to prove what a a great ballerina she is! This is so lovely.

As a ballet fan, I LOVE pointe from a visual perspective, but I sometimes do wish it wasn't a thing because of how painful it really is.

I think this has to do with the face that the Arabian dancers are supposed to be barefoot! I think this happens in every production!

This is without a doubt the best Arabian dance I’ve ever seen. What a wonderful performance.

Ugh, really? Seems labored to me, and she mugs to the audience way too much. Choreography not particularly inspired.
@MrGoffagoffa2 жыл бұрын
@@mariamsaik1440 it's not literally Arabian, it's more about an inspiration or more precisely the early orientalist representation of Arabian culture based on the " arabian nights "

The Maurice Bejart production has the best version. The sensuous slow snakelike movements by the female dancer to that exotic sonorous music is hypnotizing.

Lia and Lasha are such timeless, perfectly matched partners, from at least 2013 onwards. much like Margot and Rudolf.

An absolutely gorgeous version of this most haunting piece by Tchaikovsky. Lia is so strong, lithe, sensual and stunningly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Wow. I've probably seen 10 or 12 different Nutcrackers over many decades of Christmas seasons. That was an absolutely superb variation: so much control, so much expression. Brava! Bravo!

I remember in high school band we played a piece called “The Nutcracker Suite” and it had the more well-known melodies, but when we came to this song, it fascinated me. I had not seen the ballet but I knew something mysterious must be happening during this part of the story. The music is so rich and evocative. It’s still my favorite melody in The Nutcracker. 🎶 🩰

I play clarinet and enjoy classical music. Not much of a ballet aficionado. However, this display just was so sophisticated, so smooth, it just made my day.

I am obsessed with this dance. It's so beautiful. The first time I saw The Nutcracker, it was a local production, and this dance was done as a sensuous solo by an uncharacteristically curvaceous dancer. It was mesmerizing, and I am watching every performance of this dance I can find. So many wonderful versions, but none as beautiful as that first with that gorgeous dancer.

The musical director Really Wound Up the Expression in this production! Such nuances! So profound, haunting, hypnotic and captivating! I can barely listen to the 'merrily-we-roll-along' versions of this, after being mesmerized by this recording! Every Instrument seems to be weaving individual spells! Fabulous recording! Beautiful dancing notwithstanding, I'm playing on repeat due to the mystical musical journey! Bravo!

The audience were being polite and concentrating on the dancers and the music to absorb what they were watching and hearing otherwise they would have been clapping every 5 minutes to ruin what was going on on stage. These are serious ballet enthusiasts who spend $$$$$$$$$$$ for a ticket, they don't need to keep clapping and spoil the atmosphere, they leave that all to the end of the performance, the dancers know that. Of course they could have been asked by the theatre management not to clap until the end of the performance as it ruins the concentration of the dancers when they're listening to the music to keep in time with it.
