Unfortunately, as artists, we tend to be our own worst critics. I say this from experience. 😕
@roudydogg16 ай бұрын
@fyeelessarndra3392 Tchai thought it was "bad ballet", that the story would "fool" people into thinking it was good where he believed it to be "fake" and "boring", and firmly opined that it was less complex than it pretended to be. Also, his sister died during the composition and he hated it on a very deep personal level after that; understandably so.

You're right! Ashley Bouder has been a principal (top rank) at New York City Ballet (one of the top companies worldwide) since 2005 and a star in the world of ballet. She has a line of leotards, over 75k followers on Instagram, runs her own company called the Ashley Bouder Project, and she is a resident fellow at New York University.

she already does! she’s a principal or a soloist (not sure which one) with new york city ballet

5:37 note the difference between the soloist and the corps the ballet - the soloist Ashley Bouder extends her arabesque noticeably longer while the rest of the ballerinas have already stepped into their tour jetés...it's small details like this and facial expressions and character etc. that make the soloist or prima stand out; kudos to every dancer here tho they all looked spectacular

I don't think the thumb-downers are people who just don't appreciate ballet. I think they are pros who don't like that the ballerinas a bit uncoordinated. I am not a ballerina, but I grew up with classical music and watched all the main ballets dozens of times when I was a kid. They are supposed to dance like one, not be all over the place. But I am giving it a thumb up for the beautiful music by the eternal Tchaikovsky. He was a basket case but look at the gifts he left behind.

This dance brings such a smile to my face. It reminds me of when I used to do ballet... it gives me a nostalgic mixture of joy and sadness. Even though I don't dance anymore, ballet still is and always will be a part of me. This is a beautiful piece.

It’s really only noticeable to dancers. I love it! Balanchine dancers move faster, they hold their hands differently, what some call a claw, and he emphasized the lines your body makes and what audiences see. For instance if I’m posed with my right foot forward my neck should be turned slightly so that my left cheek is front and center to the audience. I guess a easier explanation in 1 word is Extra! Everything is emphasized. I think it beautiful.

James Jackson you must dance! Thank you! I appreciate a more “layman’s terms” answer than a copy and pasted definition (see comment above) otherwise I would have just googled it myself! 😂
@jeezuschrist98873 жыл бұрын
Clarissa Leung yeah, That’s a great answer, however your first sentence is wrong! If you have to copy/paste don’t add anything unless you are knowledgeable. The Balanchine technique is what we are taught to dance Balanchine Style! And you actually contradicted your own 1st sentence by explaining the “techniques” we learn to dance Balanchine “style”. Not trying to be rude but dancing is my life and my work.

People wany quick effort free reward is the problem (i say this as a classical musician). It takes years to reach a passable level and people seems not to want to put in the effort.
