I feel like the props aren't even the main safety concern. Taking an 80mph quad to the dome with its battery and mass at that speed would be deadly.

Yeah, this is a good demonstration that 3.5” is not really that much more safer than a 5”, both quads if taken to the face will put you in the ER. The general public perception though of a 3” vs a 5” is that they look friendlier, but looks can be deceiving.

I mean… the 3.5” will still cut, but there is a HUGE difference in mass and speed between that and a 5”.

@@rilijn it also just won't cut as badly, I've seen people being bitten hand launching with a 3.5 and a 5; with a 3.5 you can almost get lucky sometimes that it doesn't cut you at all, that's pretty unlikely with a 5inch it usually fucks you up. Let's think about it properly; a 5inch weighs like double the weight if not more than a 3.5 most cases, which means a 5inch usually has at least double the thrust (power) to lift it... thus it's likely to be at least twice as bad if it's blades hit you whilst the throttle is up.

Seen many balstic gel heads used to test weapons but never anything like this. You guys really went after it, and used real science with the coat and all. Great job Bot! JRE should check this out.

Murderbot is a cyborg SecUnit (Security Unit) that freed itself from corporate programming and has discovered certain humans are almost likeable. In the latest two books, Murderbot takes out several enemies by smashing its drones into them just like this.

you can reshape it back together with some sort of mold and a oven, they go back together but a little darker. i don't remember what temp,but i've done it a few times with my ballistic gel block and a metal box sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

I actually got attacked by my own drone while working on it on the bench. The damage was no joke, that’s why you take your props off when working with it. I have the picture from that day if you want it 😬

I have gone through 5 mobula 8 frames. They fly so good but they are so weak. I got the meteor 85 frame, had to melt 3x3 mounting holes in it, and its held up great.

The cut on the nose with the 3 inch being that deep is probably not perfectly accurate, as the head lacks any bone structure there. But I can confirm that 3 inch, even with 1106 motors, can break skin. Always be careful with exposed blades, especially with eyes and other extra fragile tissues. On the other hand, it shows that the impact of even a 5 inch quad is quite limited, and doesn't agree with the narrative that these would easily wreck the wings of an airliner

I agree there is no way a 5" could take out a plane, maybe right in an engine? but any mid air collision the drone would be toast.

@@BOTGRINDER Yeah, meanwhile that's one of the narratives used to seriously limit the options for recreational rc flight. Whether quadcopter, or a foam glider, anything above 250g is starting to become subject to excessive restrictions. And if equipped with a camera, even when below that weigh limit. Crazy...

I did this to myself with my 5" and the forehead damage was identical. I just put a paper towel on under by goggles and kept flying. No stitches. Scars give you cool stories to tell...

Last year I was about to fly my quad and didn't realize that one of the prop nuts wasn't tightened...when I took off the prop flew off and my quad shot up and flew straight into my face. Luckily my goggles protected my eyes bc one of the props sliced my lip open pretty bad....never made that mistake again

yea i flew a 920gram quad into my head one day it was bad lol i posted like a year or so ago probably should have gotten stitches or staples but i don't do drs or gov. so i super glued it called it a day never tried flipping inverted past my head again after that one
