Magnus Carlsen took on Vladimir Fedoseev in the 9th round of the World Blitz 2022. Carlsen played the Catalan and it was a positional struggle that looked as if it would end in a draw. But would Magnus Carlsen let the game equalize so easily? Would he not press for a win? Check out the video to see who came out on top. Also it is quite rare to see both the players smile and discuss happily after a tense game.

This is the round where Magnus joked with Dubov by saying that now he knows why Dubov is making all the draws. Dubov was paired against Nakamura.

They joked about how it was a "perfect strategy" for Fedoseev to score some wins earlier on to end up being matched against Magnus Carlsen as black (sort of an irony that it's a 95% loss now for Fedoseev). Then they recalled some similar occasions from past years

Yes, most players are playing passive against Carlsen, there is no guaranteed result for any strategy in chess… win or lose or draw … play aggressively and fear for no one.

there is a problem in the chess world today: as I see it, most gms are now playing for a draw when facing magnus carlsen. gm Fedoseev played excellent, however he decided to go for the draw in the end. in this game at one point Fedoseeve was winning. he clearly showed weaknesses in his endgame. he should not have pushed the b pawn allowing magnus to have a chance of an isolated a pawn. other than that mistake, his decision to put the bishop on the b file was not the best. also trading pieces was bad for him, since he was left with the worst part pawn wise, with pawns two pawns on the b file. magnus had a knight that was stronger than feedoseev's bishop. players need to be careful with how they trade pieces against magnus, always in most of magnus' games he seems to be having the better part of the exchange. so magnus evaluates and calculates better. in this game fedoseeve was clearly winning at one point. magnus only managed to create more serious treats when his queen and knight were attacking black's f6 pawn. it is possible that gms today think that getting a draw against magnus is like accomplishing a win. and that to me seems bad reasoning. chess players at the top level ought to not fear playing magnus the champion. instead they should play smart, fiercely and determined to win. i admire those chess fighters and strategists who love being challenged and show much wits and ability over the board. magnus did not played his best in this game, yet he was able to seize opportunities when fedoseev permitted so. thanks and Happy New Year!

These players always play for a win if they have the time and they think they have an advantage, if they drew it has to be because Fedoseev messed up

So what you’re saying is he made mistakes and was not playing for a draw.

Lol bro you go on a board when you are so smart and play for win against Magnus. All these GMs are obviously too dumb to realize that.

better than Fedosev chess ? we can all learn the best way to beat Magnus? I'll subscribe if you're doing 2900 level tutorials- but most these guys are happy to be invited to the next tournament , and just wanna keep their position in the standings ...drawing against Magnus gains ELO and doesn't blow a tourney spot usually - so it IS a win probably in their eyes. If they "go after a wreckless-win" each time , at the 2700 level ,especially with the black pieces against dominant players instead of staying "solid" and getting a draw , - they risk not just a chess game for fans; but they can (and most likely) lose their top spot and risk a razor-thin career getting smoked. Losing tourney invites doesn't translate well for sponsors and probably paying rent as a chess player either. I'm guessing that professional- tournament chess has a long-game strategy when it's a living for years and years and they calculate: ELO , standings , invites, sponsors, etc ... best wishes :)

It was a classic draw.. first Magnus tried to attack but Feedo made a dangerous check and after that the draw was obvious because if Magnus would have moved bad he had lost but after changening queens it a classic draw with pawns and rooks.. sorry for my english

@@fabriciomessi2861 but why draw at this time though? both sides have rooks and 3 pawns, they can try doing stuff right? maybe someone will make a mistake and the opponent will seize the initiative and win, or maybe someone will lose on time? i don't understand the draw at this position. i guess they are GMs...
@fabriciomessi2861
@fabriciomessi2861 Жыл бұрын
@@wiawaysb that is true, but nobody is going to make a blunder in this position, if anybody want to try of winning, they have to move the king but if the king move to much you know that he is going to lose, so... nobody is going to move the king very much trying to defend the pawns (sorry for my english) but not only for GMS... if you are 1800+ you are not going to lose this... it's very hard to take a risk because you know that you are going to lose

@@wiawaysb I think at the level these guys are at , they've all seen this position thousands of times and they all know what's going to happen no matter what move is made from that position. These guys memorize not just openings 20+ moves deep , but they do endgame studies and exercises with their trainers and coaches and are taught exactly how to draw / and win certain , common endgame positions,. Rook Pawn probably the most common endgame? (Someone can correct me , i'm like 1550-1600 rapid) There's literal books written on chess engames that they all have read. And at 2700-2800 level chess - it's a given that someone like Fedosev/Carlsen will know all of this stuff, and know all the tricks , so instead of pushing pieces in the same pattern that they've all seen/known for years and years , they agree to just let it go . I think Hikaru has said that he's played 300,000 online games of chess ... unless I heard it wrong , if I remember right it was in his Lex Friedmen Podcast interview. Best wishes :)
