Poor calf has a bad case of scours. We add some meds and starter feed.

Hope he can get rid of the scours quickly...not a fun thing to have...or to have to deal with. I like the way you set up the little pods for them...they even had built-in fencing :)

I buy and sell bottle calf’s and anytime I have one with scours I replace there milk with about 8 eggs mixed and warmed up. It has a lot of protein in them so you don’t have to worry about the calf being hungry. You can also give them 10cc of apple cider vinegar in there mouth that will help with scours and bloat

I also give them electrolytes. This has always worked way faster and better then anything I bought from stores

That is an interesting approach. I give a few eggs on occasion. Luckily, fingers crossed I have not had to deal with scours in a good while. Thank you for the advice. Always happy to hear what works for other folks. Have a great week - DJ

Have you tried Spectoguard? If Scours are like water we give boluses, electrolytes and we also thin the milk down and reduce to 1 1/2 qts per feeding, just for 2 days and slowly bring back up to 2 qts after that. We put 4 or 5 pumps of Spectoguard in the thinned down milk. Good luck and keep posting.

I use calfguard and I have a very familiar “scour program” almost the same as yours. I appreciate all and any advice. I haven’t used much as far as boluses are concerned. Thank you for the comment. All the best - DJ

At what age should I start weaning them off of their bottle and onto hay/grain?

I try to be fully weaned at 5-6 weeks. Provide fresh hay and grain early. They should naturally start eating hay and you can help with grain intake by putting it into their mouths. This will help start rumen development. Thank you for the comment Willow.
