Bottomless Pools is now closed, but was once a popular family tourist attraction in Lake Lure, NC. Little information is publicly available about the park, but it is a beautiful area that is part of the 2011 Master Plan for the future of Chimney Rock Park. So, it may be open to the public in the future.
***The videographer of this film is unknown. It was smuggled out of the US in great secrecy. Many Bothans died to bring us this information....
*** I am told this was filmed with a Canon T5i camera, with the stock 18-55 zoom lens.

It is so heart breaking to see Bottomless Pools like this. I grew up coming here with my family. Wonderful memories we have of this place. I sure hope that someone somewhere can get it restored and open again very soon.

I use to go to Lake Lure several times a year but especially on the 4th of July and always visited the Bottomless pools. Love it as much today as I did then it's absolutely breath taking. I hope that one day it gets a make over and the public can experience this beautiful place as they once did.

Thanks. I lived in Rutherford County back in the mid-eighties , passed by the “bottomless pools” signs several times and wondered what it was about.

I have come to Lake Lure for 30+ yrs and my parents never took us and I always wanted to go. As an adult, I came back and got to go in 2000, 2001,2002,2004 and was my favorite place. I could stay there for hours. I came back in 2007/2008 and it was always closed due to family illness. 2010 was posted as closed / No Trespassing and the big signs were gone/marked out. I still go back there in the hopes of it being opened again. Based on this video, the pipe rails and ledges..... probably can't afford the liability insurance to bring it up to code for the public. SO SAD!! I wish it was at least be posted for sale to have the dream of potential opening. Breaks my heart to have such awesome beauty and no one gets to experienced it. :(

Why did they close it down? It's so gorgeous!!! I wonder where the water originates. And also if it's contaminated. Endless pools? God given water source!!!

Holy Cow Jim, this is blowing me away ! my Grandparents lived there, and operated the Bottomless Pools from the 50's(maybe even earlier) into the 70's. I spent a lot of my Childhood on those grounds. that entrance bridge used to be uncovered and it was kinda sketchy!! I remember when they rebuilt and covered it. Thanks for posting this man...!!

I go here every summer and know very little about these but my aunt has been in contact with the current owner of the property so here's what I know currently, the pools have never been officially measured they have sent my instruments down but most ended up losing connection, it is an amazingly serene area with a large rocky slope that resembles sliding rock in Pisgah national forest, it has a few of the pools and also the owner of the property hates the town because they blamed him for the drowning thus making him close the pools, my goal though is simple, I want to spempnd a day there and see how nice it really is to get the full, experince

I live in Lake Lure and my family has been here for several generations. It is very sad to see the pools closed. I wish the current owner, Allen Moore, would sell the property or restore and open it, so the public could once again enjoy it's beauty! I think we as native Lake Lure residents should preserve and share our rich history and lands with others. We are blessed to live and own these beautiful lands!

And the state has made many attempts to purchase it, and he chooses to let it rot. (The story goes he swore he’d never let people swim after a drowning) but personal opinion I think it’s more money related. Such a shame.

brings back many child hood memories of fishing under the bridge and swing in the river and poolsi. my mom was a live in asistant for years for the lady that owned the property( Martha Jane Powers). she lived in the 2 story rock house that is just beside the pools ( the last dirt driveway on the right just before the covered bridge). from what I have been told Martha Jane has past away a few years ago and is now owned by her nephew Allen. I would love to be able to go back to the house and pools one day as there was so much history there the Powers family was very well known in the area and in politics I can remember seeing pictures hanging on the wall in the house of President Rosivelt in a top less car passing by the beach area. hopefully one day the pools will be reopened and if so I would highly recommend going it is a very peacefully and beauty full place.

I was in Lake Lure this past weekend, and asked a park ranger who was leading hikes in the area whether the state would be adding the bottomless pools to its public lands portfolio. He said "they'd like to, but it's not for sale." I walked down Bottomless Pools Drive but there was an orange tape strung across the road about 65 feet from the covered bridge. I was told by a local bartender that the property was watched by a "mean old lady" who would call the police on you if you trespass. It's very disappointing to go to Lake Lure and not to be able to see these beautiful falls. I sincerely hope that whoever inherits the property will consider selling it to the state, so everyone can enjoy it.

I went there today to look at a remodeling job. Well I drove down the access road. A customer lives at the end of the Bottomless Pools Road. I was intrigued by the story of the pools so I researched it. Would be nice if they could restore it. An extremely beautiful area and the house sits in a valley with creeks, waterfalls, flowers, and so many birds. I hope she takes the bid so I can visit there for the next few weeks. Haha

Nice trespassing video - you're making it way too easy for the Lake Lure Police Dept. to find and prosecute you. Seriously, it's a shame that the Bottomless Pools are in such dilapidated condition. As recently as 2004 I went there with the possibility of getting married in the wedding chapel, but at that time several storms had already downed the large hemlocks along the pool trail and trashed the former beautiful views, the pools were sunlit instead of shady, and the place looked pretty decrepit but not totally abandoned. Someone was still operating the wedding chapel. Today it belongs to an out-of-state owner in TN. No idea what will ever happen with it. The "bottomless" pools (if I recall correctly - 90, 60 and 45 feet deep - impressive potholes but not exactly 'bottomeless") are beautifulto view, but the whole Pool Creek ecosystem is the real star. It would be nice to have a combined picnic/visitor area and nature preserve in there again. Not holding my breath for that to happen. Development happening in every direction.

Honestly? I'm happy that it's doing OK & there aren't too many folks messing up the ecosystem there. I imagine it's pretty unique! Also, do you have a source for those depths? I've been looking around but not finding anything.
