ETUDE: "BOUNCE"
AUTHOR: Mark Perrett
INSTRUMENT: Snare Drum
8 REPS OF EACH TEMPO
PRACTICE TIPS:
- Play all heights, dynamics, and zones as written.
- Record yourself, play in a mirror, and pause to take notes as you find personal tendencies and inconsistencies.
- Work on consistent grace note spacing and grace note height.
- Focus on diddle interpretation and maintain consistency.
- Make sure the long roll in measure 5 is the same rhythmic value as the paradiddle section in measure 6.
- Take this at your own pace! There are a lot of details and everyone is at a different performance level. Pause and isolate parts as needed.
- Have fun and groove with it!
WHAT IS DRUMLINE SIMULATOR?
Drumline Simulator is an interactive play-along video platform designed to help you practice Grid Book Exercises, Etudes, Warm ups, and more. This video takes you through reps at different tempos using rhythmically accurate audio tracks and large, detailed sheet music. DO NOT ATTEMPT to run the simulator until you are ready to play the music at the first tempo. Once you have the music in your hands you can begin your reps and build muscle memory. The goal is to play from top to bottom without error. Once you have completed the individual practice reps, we take into "Performance Mode" Use this as a tool to #GetBetter and be honest with yourself and your progress. Enjoy.

Throwback to when they didn’t keep everything behind a paywall These guys used to so much for the drum community but clearly stopped caring a few years ago. Sad how when I ask kids who currently march, they’ve never even heard of GridBook.

Hey grid book, don’t know if you’re gonna see this, but I feel like this is a great way to teach sight reading, because if you’re invested in it and not just casually watching it, you’ll pick it up quick and learn a few things on the way. Nice job dudes.

Avapxia Music Play 3 notes in the space of 2 🙌🏽
@gridbooknation
@gridbooknation 7 жыл бұрын
Originally it was written with diddles, and a note saying to slur the diddles. Now we have the program that can actually write the slur in, so the original intent is now written into the music. It will feel like an open or slurred diddle there. Play 3 notes in the space of 2.

can someone tell me a good way to practice flammed diddles?
@gridbooknation
@gridbooknation 7 жыл бұрын
Practice Flams. Practice Diddles. This will give you a solid base for both. Then play Legatos at tap height and add isolated diddles. Then you can do a flam accent break down, and add the diddle to make it a cheese break down. So many ways to do it!

Giulz Pugs Don't worry about it! There are plenty of free videos on KZfaq over how to read music and what it all means. A little over a year ago, I couldn't read music either. Just explore, and eventually you'll figure how it all works and you'll be able to read and write like a legend!

Hey if you try hard enough you can do it. I only played snare for two seasons (indoor and outdoor drumline) and after many, many reps of this I have it committed to memory. Granted, I can't play it like he can but I can play it, and so can you!

sorry not sure how i ended up here , but the term bounce sort of makes me think in terms of a dotted feel, a kind of hopping or bouncing groove, but i really dont understand the marching band vibe . It is a good way to teach kids how to read though.
@gridbooknation
@gridbooknation 7 жыл бұрын
No offense taken! The etude is called "BOUNCE" because the track we are playing to is called "Bounce" by DJ ZIRON. The song has particular moments where the beat drops out and a robot says the word "Bounce". There is also a driving beat with syncopations that encourage you to "Bounce" your body or bob your head. The concept of "Bouncing" is also used when performing on a percussion instrument. For example, when playing on a marching snare (as seen in the example video above) the way you manipulate the sticks is done by "Bouncing" them off of the drum head. So the term "Bounce" is seen in this piece literally, figuratively, and thematically. Hope this helps! Have a great day!
