This bow hunting video features hunts for polar bear, grizzly bear, musk ox and bison. This is up close and personal traditional bow hunting! Eastmans' subscriber Mark Smith has bow hunted for polar bear, grizzly bear, musk ox, bison and more with his recurve bow. Bow hunting with a traditional recurve bow means instinctive shooting.
From the hunter Mark Smith, " Several years back Greenland decided to allow muskox hunts.
The Greenland board of game decided to only allow only compound archery equipment for the hunts. Pope & Young club contacted me asking my input concerning this regulation. The video was created to send to the Greenland board of game showing impact shots from my 60 pound recurve bow on the largest of the North American big game with the intent that they would change their regulation to allow traditional archery hunts for Muskox."

They are doing it for the experience. Not necessarily the kill, but just being in incredible places and getting to hunt incredible animals. What a great feeling that must be! The "trophies" (meat or mounts) are secondary to the exhilarating feelings of the experience. It's all about the hunt!

@@i_biscuit7140 same reason I just said.... For the experience. Polar bear hunts are extremely expensive and thus extremely rare. Only a handful of people in the world get to hunt them. So it would be an incredible feeling to go into their tundra environment and hunt one. I don't know if I would ever want to do it, but I can absolutely understand why certain guys do.

Only in certain areas with a special tag you can hunt them. You are correct polar bears are considered endangered in the US. But populations are good in Canada for hunting.

They are endangered, I believe you need a tag in order to hunt them. Here in Alaska and I bet you Canada don’t have to have a tag to hunt them, I forgot the real reason why we don’t need tags(probably bc we’re Native, I am Inupiaq) and me and my family, the whole village when ever there’s a polar bear near or around our village we try our best to keep this place safe bc it costs a lot of money to get someone sent out for help.

I understand why you'd think that, just know that you probably aren't seeing the hours or days of tracking and/or the reason why this hunt was undertaken. For all we know, that bear had been harassing the nearest village. Polar bears don't see us as predators, they see us as food. And not all harvest has to be fair chase, there's plenty of conservation/management reason why someone might have to kill an animal.

Some people here in upper Alaska hunt polar bears for the meat and for protection. Here in my village, the only time we kill polar bears are when they’re a threat to us, or if they wonder too close to us. We hunt Bowhead Whales, we stay on the ice for days and one in a while we tend to come across polar bears, we leave them be but only when they get too close to us. But here’s what I’ve been stuck on for a while, why hunt polar bears for mean when we have Caribou, Moose, Whales, Seals, Walruses, Ducks, Geese, ptarmigans, Fish, Goats(mainly around the top right, middle, and lower Alaska) but I’m mainly talking about where the Polar bears live.

But in next years hunt I'm going for a trophy animal as well and when I get it I will take great joy because I went walked 10 miles up a mountain shot an animal with enough precision to kill it and then went and tracked It down.

Yes. We’ve hunted with dog for 40,000 years. Used them to trap animals for easy shots. But that was when hunting was a matter of life or death for people. Such is no longer the case. Using dogs to corner game is disrespectful to the animal. Especially when you don’t plan on eating it. Which I know he isn’t.

A lot of people will pay a lot....for a piece of that polar bear....and without leaving the country....the trade in exotics has many facets....ritual....superstition....extreme cuisine....and traditional medicine...plus.. Occultism and there is a thing they do... With such animals....including giraffe... Which is growing in popularity.... Funny though....most of the people eating rare meats off a plate.....will claim to be vegan if you asked them.... It's just the most popular thing to say... Artic natives all around the world have been eating polar bear since they arrived there. You will be thrown in jail if you dont harvest the full animal, have to pay a huge fine, and you will never get a tag again in your life.

@Thomas I wonder if they realize sometimes even a good shot is missed, or not perfect. A lot of times an animal isn't killed with one shot from a bullet or an arrow. They can even run a football pitch or miles before dying or even survive.

There is archaeological evidence of things in the Bible and prophecys that were proven true. For instance Isaiah predicting the reign of king Cyrus hundreds of years before Cyrus was even born. @slim shiddy Polar bears are currently listed as "vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and are designated as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act here in the United States. I'm an avid bow hunter, and I of course support hunting in general, but this particular hunt was fucked up and disgraceful.

@slim shiddy I'm as against redundant laws as much as the next guy (hell, in my youth I was borderline anarchist), but humans have a little something called self-control. Hunting is perfectly fine....until it isn't. Once an animal has reached a point where there entire species is at risk of endangerment, the hunting needs to stop in order to let the animal's population replenish. Again, self-control. Sadly, greed knows no bounds, and so laws must be put in place to save these animals. For instance: you may think it is okay to go and kill a single giraffe for that giraffe-skin coat you've been wanting, and in your mind it is not a big deal because what will the death of that one giraffe do to the population? But what about the next guy, who has the exact same mentality as you? He also thinks that the loss of one giraffe is no big deal, and so he goes and kills one. Then the cycle continues and more and more giraffes are killed until...*poof*... they are extinct. Conservation is the key to longevity. If you want to continue being able to hunt something and sustain your own way of life, then that comes at the cost of sometimes having to put a pause on things to allow the animal population to regrow. If you don't give the population a chance to regrow, then you will end up with another extinct species, and now neither you, nor future generations, are able to hunt that animal because you failed to have self-control.

There's no excuse for hunting an endangered animal. In 30 years there may not even be any polar bears left in the wild and you upload this as if this is something to be proud of. I am all for hunting and living in communion with mother nature, but killing a polar bear for sport in the year 2021 is beyond ignorance. All your years of experience and credibility as a "hunter" just went out the window. The past is already written but tomorrow is filled with possibilities. Make the right choice next time, and if possible I hope you find a way to make amends for this mistake, for your own sake.

Where are you getting your information? Polar bears are not endangered. There is plenty of information out there saying so and more specifically, there are more bears now than in the last 50 years. This is the traditional way tribes up north hunt polar bears, and they have been doing it this way for thousands of years. It allows for a very selective way to harvest bears, which is important in predator management.

I apologize for my ignorance. I still however must stand behind my original statement. While not endangered their environment is under constant attack and threat at a drastic rate due to climate change. It's just simply my opinion that this particular animal has a little bit more suffering it must endure in it's life and for its future generations than some of the other animals you hunted in this video. Perhaps as caretakers of the Earth we should treasure that fact and understand that just because we can, doesn't mean we have to.

Guided hunts are not hunting skill. They didn't track it. They didn't have the knowledge of the animal its habitat its behaviors. They just enjoy cutting the string on a life. Regardless of the repercussions it may have... i.e polar bear. Hunting bears with dogs is also very cheap. They probably chased the bear for a while with the dogs which is why it was laying there for that "person" to shoot it care free. By himself no guide ... he would have never been there or the bear would have a free meal. Kind of wish the latter happened since the bear was a far better life than the human. Not even attacking. Just sitting there.

Polar bears aren't as endangered as they are portrayed to be but endangered or not, I don't like the idea of hunting a polar bear. They are intelligent, beautiful creatures and it's especially sad seeing one killed with a bow for sport. There would be nothing wrong with hunting a polar bear for the purpose of survival. I can only ever justify deer and small game hunting, for sport.

Polar bear cubs are beautiful. Adults are among the most dangerous killers on Earth. They are only intelligent in a sadistic way. I have seen them close up and any guy getting this close to a bear is either insane or courageous or both. You need to put a round into polar bear at 300 yards to be safe.

I don't even hunt and I know that the polar bear should be considered more as an execution than a hunt. That was just absolutely painful to watch. Instead of just killing it and ending its suffering, he just sat there staring at it as it was slowly dying. If you ain't killing it to help prevent overpopulation or in self defense or you ain't killing it to eat it, don't hunt it.

@@rickgrimes469 This is about the cleanest kill you will ever get. It is extremely rare for any animal to be dropped where it stands when shot with a bow or even a gun. Even after a perfect shot I've seen them make it over 200 yards before dropping. That's why after you land your arrow it's best to wait at least 15-30 min before you start tracking the blood trail to give it enough time to fully die. You're only mad because its a polar bear, and your perception of them has been warped by society.

Great video! I don’t think people realize the rules and regs when hunting polar bears. Not to mention that his native guide was most likely the influence on shot placement as he probably uses the same method…. To protect the pack of dogs he has spent so much time and energy raising, in order to practice tradition and food on the table. This was another harvest for him, just wasn’t the one letting the arrow fly. Like it or not, that bear died very humanely. Just because it wasn’t a deer or elk running behind some trees and doing the same thing the bear did doesn’t make it wrong or bad.

It’s wrong because they are an almost endangered apex predator. Hunting vulnerable or endangered species is always wrong, it doesn’t matter how fast they die. And I highly doubt this dude killed this bear to eat it, instead probably put it up as a display. Even if he did kill the bear to eat it, out of all of the other animals that have stable populations EVERYWHERE like deer, elk, moose, turkeys, rabbits, bighorn sheep, squirrel, fish and farm raised livestock, he chose to torture and kill a threatened species for sport
