I am a small woman but had nine plus babies. My doctor said my condition was tied to having three large babies, hard labor, lots of stitches and pelvic floor dysfunction that resulted later in life. I did not begin seeing problems until my late 60's (Muscle damage occurs in the rectum.) My episodes are infrequent, so I am going to explore pelvic floor therapy before considering a sacral nerve stimulator or any kind of surgery to fix the damaged muscle.
