Bowers and Wilkins S2 vs S3 Series.
In this video you will hear an A, B comparison of the two loudspeakers Bowers and Wilkins 705 S3 and 706 S2. Both shots were taken under exactly the same conditions. The only audible difference is the individual sound of the speakers. The following gear was used: Rega Brio Class A integrated amplifier, bi-wire audio cable, Rode NT-1A, Scarlett Focusrite Solo, Macbook Air M.

I tried both of them and to be honest the difference in sound between them is not a day or night difference as they sound very similar, so for the price i prefer 706s2 as you can find them for a better deal right now (1000 euro) so its hard to justifice the price increase.

a) The sound lines are thicker. There are more reverberations. It's a little bit more round. It sounds a little more musical. It's a little bit more elastic. b) There is more openness. The sound sounds hollow. The note is a little lighter.

interesting test. B has more clarity in the voices, and seems to have less bass loudness but lower extension, also slightly smoother overall sound. The difference seems to be more pronounced on the second song at least to me using a laptop and BW p7 headphones .

I agree with you. Song 2 is where you really hear the difference. Overall the soundstage with the 705 S3 is much larger. I really prefer the S3

I preferred the 706 for the first title and the 705 S3 for the second, both priced at $700 used in France. Is it worth it?

B is clearly superior. Some people say A if they buy it. But if you can get it for free, there will only be people called B. This is the answer!

I have 706s2 and is a fantástic speaker and Rega Brio is a poor amp for this speaker. I have them with a tube amp and to me sounds like “The B Speaker” does in this video. That said The quesiton here is if 706S3 would be The real deal. Steve Hoffman reviewed 706 and 705 S2 and said that 706 was 90/95% of 705. Today 706 S3 cost 2.000€ and 705S3 3.000€, 705 cost 50% more and if 706 is 90% of 705….

difficult to say. best would be to hear them in direct comparison. to my ears the 705s3 are a huge soundimprovment over the 706s2. Btw the rega brio is an absolut fantastic amp! nothing to say against it!

Hello. I have ordered bowers 706 s2 without demo as demo is not possible where I live . I will be pairing them with my old Harman Kardon 3380 stereo receiver. I have heard reviews that these speakers sound bright / harsh so one cannot listen for too long ? Doesone have to do any tonal adjustments to 706 s2 for listening?

705 is clearer than the 706. But still, for my ears, both of them lean toward emphasized high frequency responses.

Well I’ve got both the 705s2 and 705s3 and you would be very hard to tell them apart just listening to them. There was always a jump from the 706 to 705. The tweeter on top makes a big difference. Not necessarily something everyone likes though.

The 707s2 speakers sound better than the two speakers above. price is cheaper This is an accidental masterpiece from b&w speakers.

Limited information through headphones B sounds better, it just feels like it has a bit more of presence and depth but it's a mild difference nothing earth shattering.

A喇叭聲音比較集中，音色較溫暖，音場小，B喇叭聲音較遠，高音清亮音場開闊。一開始會被A喇叭吸引，覺得B喇叭VOCAL比較沒那麼刺激，聽久就會覺得還是B喇叭更高一個等級

b is definitely more open. but I'm not sure the high frequency is for everyone since it makes the human voice less rounded.

Both sound good. First song i thought the A was better (706 s2) and second song B (705 s3). 705 s3 is definitely more detailed in highs because tweeter has its own space...but both speakers are great. And they have a huge price difference...i think 705 s3 its twice the price.

yes 705 s3 is 3000€ a pair. 706 s2 is about 1000€ a pair. I have to say that 705 s3 produces a much larger soundstage. No comparison to the 706. If hear the 705 s3 is nearly as good as the 805 d4

@@trexabyte9943 I havent heard them but im sure they sound as good as you say. you can never understand from a video. But all 700 series are great. I think a fair comparison would be 706 s2 vs s3/ 705 s2 vs s3.

Ive heard that both (the 705 s3 and 805 d4) nearly sound the same. You just have to eq the 705 a bit. bass +1 and treble -1. The price difference between the 705 and 805 is 5300€. No chance that the 805 sound that much better…

@@trexabyte9943 I agree with you. I have b&w 706 s2 and im very happy with them. This is something true for every product..as the price go higher the quality better..but there is a point that you have to pay more and more for smaller differences. Like everything...a car worth 100.000 is twice better than a car worth 50.000..maybe..but its sure that a car worth 200.000 isnt 2 times better than the 100.000 one.

I have a Yamaha r-n 803d receiver. I am thinking of buying a 707s2 or a kef ls50 and a rel ht 1003 subwoofer as low frequency support. I can also buy the model 704 s2. I would go a bit over budget though. I listen to music mainly pop and I care about spatial and clear sound the living room is 20m2 + hall 6-7m2. what would you choose?

I would definitely go with the bookshelf speakers! Much more versatile and way easier to set up in a room especially with a separate sub. if I have to choose between 707s2 and kef ls 50, I would go with the kefs for sure. if you prefer clear sound, I would suggest the 706s2 over the 707s2. Best are the 705s but they are much more expensive...

It's obvious that your amplifier isn't bringing out the full potential of the 705. It indeed sounds a bit dry and harsh

That is the sound characteristic of the B&W 705 S3. The Speaker is very harsh. The Rega Brio 2017 amplifier however ist one of the best in his class. It is a very small amp for small rooms but it is one of the best sounding amp Ive ever heard. Keep in mind that I recorded this with just one Rode NT1A.

Unfortunately, that is not true. The B&W 705 S3 play as it should at 30 watts. The drivers are extremely sensitive. It is true that the speaker becomes softer at higher levels. At the same time, listening for long periods at levels above 80 dB quickly becomes unpleasant. The Rega Brio is an excellent amplifier for the rather hard 705 S3 due to its soft characteristics.

@@trexabyte9943 But I also found that the sound from the Rega Brio driving the 606 S2 was rather harsh. When I switched to the Mcintosh MA252, the situation improved significantly. It’s clear that the amplifier was underpowered. "I also think that the 705 S3 would likely exhibit the same issue."

@@user-zb8sh9mm1q A tube amplifier is of course significantly warmer than a classic transistor amplifier. Regardless, the price range of the two amplifiers is not comparable at all. Nevertheless, the Rega Brio is an extremely suitable amplifier for the 705 S3. the 606 s2 are not worth mentioning. the performance is extremely poor regardless of the amplifier

I've owned the 706 S2 for a couple years and don't find them bright at all in my system. A lot a people who say they are bright are going off perceived B&W reputation and not actual listening experience of the 706 S2. Like any transparent speaker a bad recording will sound bad. Mine are paired with an SVS 3000 Micro sub and a class A/B amp using a Node X. Happy listening.

The 706 S2 is a fantastic speaker. Needs a neutral to darker amp bacause they are very detailed and open. If you placed them correctly in your room you can get a very wide soundstage and great imaging. I needed a little more low end for my taste so I used the tone control on the amp to step up the bass a few notches. Will add a sub later. BTW my amp is also a HK but the HK 980 and it pairs very well to the 706 S2. Dont forget they also need some hours to break in and fully shine. Happy listening!
