What Dick Weber told me to do was shoot for the 7 or 10 pin on my practice games on the first ball then shoot for the pocket on the second ball. That way you practice both aspects of the game at the same time. Raised my average 20 pins almost overnight when I was in high school

@@Anthonysmith-ic8ef yep. My wife left the 5,7,10 split 3 times in one game a few weeks ago. And it was a pocket shot all 3 times. I always try and let her bowl her game without trying to help her because I don't like someone trying to tell me how to bowl. But I was like you need to step 8 inches forward or backwards on the approach to change the angle you are hitting. Sure enough it fixed it the next ball. Hey guys, absolutely love your videos, I am from Scotland and i never miss a video!!! Anyway i just wanted to share a little story About 7 or more years ago, USBC Gold Coach Ron Hatfield came to Scotland for a coaching camps, and at the time Ron was coaching Rhino Page, at that moment in time i had always had issues with spares, even when trying to throw straight... I spoke with Rhino and he shared with me that he actually looks at the pins reflection on the lane when aiming at spares, i gave it a go and have never looked back.. Even though i still miss some (COME ON WE ARE HUMAN AFTERALL!!!) i think i could easily say that i have consistently picked up more than 75% of my spares ever since

I started in a league last week (stand-in bowler, half way through the season). My scores were all over...160-230 range. It depends on how I'm feeling as to how many Strikes i bowl. But one thing I've been pretty consistent at and I tell people ALL the time that ask advice..."Work on picking up spares!". You can still bowl a good game if you close every frame. My nemesis, the 10 pin. I have a high rev, unusual 2 finger bowl style. I've bowled this way so much that I actually CANNOT bowl straight. I've resorted to a very slow, left hand bowl that looks like a child threw it...but it works 80% of the time, every time. ^_^

Attitude is everything in sports. Any sport. A team member who's got a bad attitude rubs off (this goes for anything in life, at home, work, on a team, etc). That team member needs to find whatever it is that calms them, and practice it. For me...it's a deep breath. Some people, it's counting to ten (or down from ten). An average player who's got a great attitude and is fun to be around has way more room to be on a team than a great player with a really bad attitude when things don't to their way. I think a video on attitude by these guys would be pretty a good suggestion, i second your request!

A light strike ball, as long as the angle of attack isn't too sharp, would more simply pick up the spare Brad missed. It's like picking up the 2 / 9 while not missing the head pin. Another spare method that works well and is easier to do is: for anything except the 10 pin Keep the same strike mark and move your approach right or left. One dot right on approach gets the 7 pin one dot to the left gets the baby split. You don't have to change your speed or your release or your ball this way. 10 pin change ball or reduce rotation and move one dot left over strike mark. Give it a try. Old school says to use the whole lane on corner spares, not half ask Norm Duke. I know humor makes disappointment easier to swallow but it can also harmatures

Pete Weber is considered, if not the best spare shooter, one of the best spare shooters ever in the PBA. Hard and straight. Like most people I don't shoot my spares that way, but if you could get used to shooting spares that way, your spare conversion % would definitely go up. I think it's funny that Pete has a "spare" ball because as fast as he throws it on spares I don't think it would matter which ball he used, it wouldn't hook LOL.

Very true but keep in mind, Pete started out as a straight bowler just like his dad and he was excellent at it. So he had the opposite problem as most of us today. I move to the right, and shoot straight for the 10 (right handed), but I don't move, for the 7. I don't use a hook ball, but i can flick my wrist, spiraling the ball across the lane, and into the 10. The other night, my ball actually hung right onto the edge of the lane, allllllllllll the way down, hitting the 10, before (Yes, I watched, and it counted, lol) finally landing in the gutter. 😳

Why would I want to use my reactive ball and change my throw and not have a plastic ball like the TZONE and just throw it straight with the same form?

These guys need to simplify the situation. For a right hander and you are bowling on a house shot. You can hook into any spare on the left side and go straight at most spares on the right side. On a pro pattern you almost always want to go straight at any single pin spare.

I roll my a-sym ball straight and slow down the right side edge og the gutter and it slowly walk over into the 7 pin 100% of the time.. I have actually set it on the ground , put my foot on top and rolled it only with my foot and have hit the 7 pin 100% of the time. I dont have to look.. Walk up slow, roll it like 5-7 mph and walk away. Oil does not matter. I hit it....lol

While that does generally work, the idea they're trying to get at is throwing straights works in literally any situation.

Typically sports shots won’t give you as much miss rooms and hooking at certain spares may not work. I bowled Junior Gold (the youth national tournament) last summer and there was one pattern that was really long. I couldn’t get my ball to read to hook at any left or middle spares, and I ended up throwing straight at everything. They are probably envisioning that and it does really work in any situation, as long as you have practiced it emough

Read the book "beyond the basics," it goes in depth about why everything we've ever been taught is wrong. Especially why the "3-6-9," is not entirely accurate. I made a chart with books recommendations and spares have become mindless. You have to video tape yourself to find your drift.
