Great tips! I was taught that (generally) when slipping or evading a punch, it should put you in the most favorable position for the counter strike, and then safely get out of the way. One move sets up another move, in MMA I notice that they like to throw their shots over the opponents shots or get hit to land one, I don't always agree with that lol. I thought the purpose was to hit and not get hit lol. I like the classic style boxing styles much better.

I had 90 amateur bouts but one thing my coach taught me was you get low throw 3 to 4 jabs to get in and it works every time you have to learn how to slip and bob and weave that’s why I said watch Tyson the young Tyson version . Than learn angles watch and study Lomachenko and Pacquio they throw a lead left but they tilt their body when throwing it so that they are not countered with a straight punch that your in position to hit the body afterwards

@@CoachAnthonyBoxing That's what I love about the boxing community. It's big, but it's still small. I watch your videos and learn different perspectives and ideas. The video that you had recently where you were teaching about taking a slight step to the side when coming in on the jab is what I was thinking about when I was working with a kid who fought the same kid that your boxer fought. Small world.

What do you think about shooting uppercuts with your heel down versus lifting your heel and pivoting on your toes? Normally if I know I wanna double up that lead hook I stay on my heel for a body shot then lift it for the second head shot. Some coaches want you to lift your heel every time but I think you wanna set up that second shot with a quick first hook.

Hey Coach, I got a question: What are the pros and cons of changing into a heavier / lighter glove? I've been using 16oz gloves since the start and I was thinking of using a 14oz glove for an amateur fight since you know, lighter means faster punches (?). Hope to hear from you. More power to you Coach !
@adcyuumi
@adcyuumi 5 жыл бұрын
I hope he answers you, but I will. Less glove is always better, until you get down under the light glove they use in MMA fighting. Past that weight, you lack enough padding to protect your hand when striking to the skull. Power in a punch comes from combining good technique with acceleration, not from extra glove weight -- the only reason to have extra padding in your glove is if the rule mandate it. (my opinion)
