The skill of boxing training is enhanced with padwork drills and this has become very popular over the past few decades due to professional boxers like Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr. and many modern day fighters. As the popularity rises, so does the scrutiny over what type of mitt work should be performed and which boxing trainers utilize it properly. We all know that there is more than one way to do correctly, but there is also a protocol that should be followed to get the best results from your fighters!

Pad Work is also a fine art. It's about time spent with your fighter/s so you both understand eachothers momentum. Best Boxers in the world can look average if there's no link with the Padman

Are those paddles helping you from getting golfers elbow, from using mitts??
@WorldClassBoxingChannel
@WorldClassBoxingChannel 5 жыл бұрын
@@derekcollinsworth2007 They are a great change from the pads. We use both pads and paddles, but the change from one to the other can help prolong such injuries. The paddles also give you a different type of "control" over the punches and defensive movement with the fighter. We do use the paddles quite often though.

My opinion is boxers punch. Bikers ride. Runners run. Pad work is about training your muscles to throw a punch then reset and throw another. The style you use is what's comfortable. Some rounds can be used for cardio then some for situational training. The main benefit to pads vs heavy bag is pads require the fighter to move. The holder can control rhythm, distance and punch combination. Pad work also teaches boxers eye discipline and they have to keep their mind thinking under pressure.

We used to get told Pads are for speed, accuracy and endurance. Heavy bag is for pure power endurance. Seemed to work like magic
@BaristaKofiMensah
@BaristaKofiMensah 5 жыл бұрын
Agree completely regarding pads. It can be a more dynamic exercise forcing the boxer to think on their feet. Heavy bags don't really simulate movement as accurately.

One of the best videos I’ve seen on pad work! I just purchase a pair of paddles for myself. I’m looking for that tight fluidity you display in this video, for myself and my students. Especially when closing the gap with punches down the centerline.

Good point about where the pad should be. How about what range it should be at? Nodody's chin is going to meet the punch. Also, every punch sounds good when you're slapping the gloves.
@juliansanderson839
@juliansanderson839 3 жыл бұрын
You slap the gloves, or at least meet the boxer with your pads, to give feedback. The impact isnt meant to show power, it is the coaches way of telling the boxer that they threw the punch accurately. Pad work is used to train patterns and striking accuracy. It’s not a power developing tool, at least not primarily.

simulate a real ring scenerio.. stay always just Out of range as a mittholder... when you flash the pads, the student needs to know how to react, bridge the gap , step in and land, then back out as part of their defense

My experience, there is no perfect way to do it. If I hold the pad right in front of me, it’s much harder to see and critique their form. Since I myself can barely see. But they’ll be throwing their punches straighter. If I hold pads to the side, they do throw a little off angle but I can evaluate their form and correct as I go. I have a guy I’ll experiment pads with (he’s retired) and I learn as I go. But what is important is constantly teaching yourself how to teach and never get complacent with thinking you “know” the best way.

Nice padwork combinations at the beginning of the clip. Can I ask how do trainers and fighters communicate what combos to throw in such situations? It seems like a reaction drill but sometimes the boxer blocks a left hook and counter with a L hook+Straight, sometimes he counters with a Straight+L hook+straight.

I feel like my coach some times holds the pads too wide, and I end up feeling super uncoordinated (particulary when he has me throw the 1 at his left hand and the 2 at his right hand, and the mitts are basically 3 or 4 feet apart) The rest of his coaching is rock solid, so should I just deal with it, or is there a way I can bring it up to him that's not insulting?

PadWork is a magical training stimuli if you have a good link with the other Gent. To get the best out of eachother it takes time. From a visual point of view, the best Boxer in the World can look shit if the Pad-Man isn't on form and Vice-Versa. Love Pad-Work.
