Hopkins' chin and durability was also exceptional. He only lost by KO through getting knocked out of the ring and hurting his leg. He faced some crazy punchers in their prime.

I'm 52 & watched so many greats & Hopkins is my absolute favorite. He's the most skilled boxer I've ever watched. He had so many weapons. I've never seen anyone with that many bags of tricks. His story is even more incredible. I'm Puerto Rican & I remember when he fought Felix Tito Trinidad & as much as I loved my countryman I remember being in a room with about 10 other Puerto Rican's & they had no clue who Hopkins was & they kept saying Trinidad was going to destroy Hopkins. I said, "not tonight!" These dudes wanted to kill me & as the fight went on they really wanted to kill me. But they soon became very quiet. You could cut the frustrating tension in the air with a knife. I have to say Hopkins had so many masterpiece fights but that Trinidad fight was his best win & the greatest performance I've ever seen. He pitched a shut out & had a beautiful conclusion with a 12 round knock out. Any young fighter reading this, I highly suggest stop watching Floyd Mayweather Jr & watch Hopkins & especially watch the Trinidad fight as many times as you can & watch how extraordinary his skills were. Watch it in slow motion & fast motion as many times as you can & I promise you, your boxing IQ will shoot through the earth's atmosphere. Saludos.

Hopkins was a legend and was all round so good. His lead hand is deadly both the jab used to set up shots and shovel hook used to split the gaurd, his rear hand was powerful and had lot's of set ups behind it in order to land yhose ko shots. His defense was simple yet effective and would smother his opponents when up close to prevent counters. His counters are some of the best I've seen, for those who don't know counters aren't based on reaction timing they are based on deception, drawing the expected reatcion out of your opponent to then exploit it with a shot of your own. Hopkins was a chess player and a master at it.

If you box, stop watch Mayweather Jr. & study Hopkins. You'll learn a lot more & the Hopkins vs Trinidad fight was his masterpiece. Watch in slow motion & see incredible his skills. Watch that fight 30 times if you have to & your boxing IQ will shoot through the earth's atmosphere. Hopkins used every inch of that ring & even the ropes. They way he bounced off the ropes to make Trinidad miss then counter punch him was outstanding. The way he fought inside, outside, faints, how relaxed he was, slick, footwork, jabs, combinations & even the way he would punch Tito's balls & hips when the ref was unable to see it was genius. He's the most skilled boxer I've ever seen. Just top tier skills.

Thank you Jamie for making the most comprehensive breakdown on the living legend Bernard "The Executioner/The Alien" Hopkins! 🥊⚔️👽🔥 Yes, B-Hop gets a bad rep (dirty tactics, headbutts, etc.) but respect must be given to a man who was/is an all-around boxing savant: fundamentally sound, highly skilled, immense boxing IQ, extremely versatile, assured adaptability, laser focus, insane discipline/work ethic, and indelible mental fortitude. There should not a reason to question how this man was capable to go up against top flight competition up until his late-40s. As for favorite B-Hop fight: While Bernard's 2001 victory over Felix Trinidad may have been his signature moment and B-Hop's 2008 beat down of Kelly Pavlik is a fun watch in terms of a boxing lesson, I have to go with Hopkins' 2006 victory over Antonio Tarver. Everyone was casting B-Hop aside after his consecutive (highly debatable, particularly the second one) defeats to Jermain Taylor the year prior and many pundits believed "The Executioner" at 41 had nothing left as he moved up to face Tarver for his Light Heavyweight Championship. B-Hop's dismantling of Tarver was to me a combination of the Trinidad and Pavlik fights, a complete boxing masterclass. As for my all-time favorite B-Hop moment, it was when Hopkins stoically did his "I told you so" glare at press row (and by extension, all the doubters) after he beat down Pavlik, once again proving that he was still a top-tier prizefighter despite being well into his 40s. I know many boxing channels have dissected this man's style but I would like to see your take on B-Hop's antithesis and fellow living legend (as well as my personal favorite fighter of all-time): "Superman" Roy Jones Jr. 🥊🦸‍♂️💪🐓🔥

His IQ was second to none. And my dude you are the most skilled analyst I've ever heard. I'm hooked! I look forward to watching your break down of my next favorite boxer of all time, Andre Ward. Andre in fact fought more like his idol Roy Jones Jr but changed his style to be more like the great Hopkins bc he realized it was more efficient for the long haul. Smart move. I remember Andre learning so much commentating Hopkins fights & he even admitted to it & of course again, you saw it in his fighting style. Saludos.

Always loved Bernard Hopkins's career when growing up and despite how much negative critique others gave, I knew a master in boxing when I saw one and that was Bernard Hopkins. A true master not only has skjills and athletic gifts, but more so has continues dicipline of his craft and body. A true master realises his own weaknesses and adapts his skills to compensate those weaknesses. Bernard Hopkins was that boxing master and fight after fight in his career at late stage proved all that and then some! Just the fact that he could stay as a middleweight for so long despite having a larger body with-out draining himself is further prove for his dicipline and dedication - His era rivals James Toney and Roy Jones Jr. are body-wise naturally having smaller frames, yet they struggled with keeping themselves as middleweights (Toney was hopeless to remain) and had to move up in weights. Toney wound up as a heavyweight, far-far away from where he started and had to fight the big men, take there power and constantly being the small guy that in the end put a lot of damages to his body and head.

@@BoxingLife Well, I dont believe in coincidence, for the most part anyways...This was MEANT to be. lol But yes, Hopkins is actually my favorite boxer of all time believe it or not...I watched him I was growing up, and he was a HUGE inspiration for me, and was one of the main reasons I fell in love with boxing as a kid, and made the switch from karate/kickboxing, to boxing in the amateurs...I wasn't one of those ppl who thought he fought "boring", in yhe latter part of his career. Even as a kid...To me, I always felt tht Big Fight feel, everytime he fought..And even though I didn't quite understand exactly what he was doing at the time, I DEF understood I was seeing something special, and unique, that I didn't see when watching anybody else...So it's always a great joy for me to see a creator, pay respect and share his body of work with the world...And I greatly appreciate it my friend.🙏 Fr

Think one of his, if not main attribute was how he good he was at taking take away is opponent's rhythm and pace away, to make them fight at Hopkins pace. Could be fighting someone who averages throwing 100 shots per round and Hopkins will have lowered the opponent into just throwing 30 shots per round. Was unreal at making is opponent, come out of their game plan and have to fight at Hopkins pace. Some folk may have found Hopkins and some of is fights boring at times, but if you could fully understand the things he was doing and why he was boxing with those tactics... It was genius and great to appreciate watching

Excusing b-hops cheating tactics is doing the man an injustice. He knew he was pretending to be hurt and rolling around like a modern day footballer. He knew he was head butting men. He knew he was landing low blows and elbows. The man was a cheat but he managed to build one of the best careers of the modern age by doing it. You can't respect his accomplishments without acknowledging how he achieved it. The man was a coward, cheat, warrior and anything else you can lay upon a fighters shoulders, all in the name of winning. Bernard, by literally any means necessary, Hopkins
