Although sad & tragic & heartbreaking at least Gabriel Martin died a true soldier's death in combat, as a real hero & patriot for a great & noble cause. His sacrifice was not in vain or without outstanding merit. Granted that serves as no consolation to his badly heartbroken father, who was bereaved beyond words (as any parent would be). If only the priest had shot Tavington first, as Gabriel was on the verge of taking out Borden. It was tragic & upsetting watching Gabriel being stabbed to death, not to mention horrifically unsettling & gut wrenching (no pun intended!). Though his heroic combat prowess & ultimate sacrifice was very noble & selfless. The kid was a genuine patriot & warrior with heart, & it was thousands like him who were instrumental in helping to defeat the most powerful military on Earth. Heath Ledger was amazing in this role, as was Mel Gibson!
