An 11-year-old boy from central China’s Henan province had to gain 18kg in just three months in order to save his sick father. Lu Zikuan’s dad needed a bone marrow transplant to treat a type of blood cancer, and the boy was a match - but he didn’t weigh enough.

He could've eaten himself to death by accident, or gotten stung by a venomous scorpion, or the marrow extraction could've gone wrong. There was so much risk associated with what he did but he didn't hesitate even once because his desire to save his dad was stronger than his desire to avoid the risks. What a wonderful young fellow.

Edit: I wanted to say that I meant that I was sad that he was going through this (coming from an asian who was overweight), but I admire his courage and his love towards his father for being a donor. | This guy is sentencing himself to a life of medical problems, all to save his dad. He'll most likely die at a young age, and suffer from chronic health problems for his entire life. This really changed my viewpoint on the world, as why does it have to fall on our children to take care of us? Why can't we have more donors so that people like him don't need to sacrifice themselves? Don't get me wrong, this guy is doing a great service to his father. I'm just sad that he has to be the one to take the fall, as he could have a bright future ahead of him.

@@SPV321 45kg is honestly not that heavy lol (and I'm a skinny Asian who grew up in Asia myself, not some fat American used to obesity). It's probably still within the average weight range for an 11 year old boy, maybe slightly on the upper side of the scale. He's just on the chubbier side now, far from obese. Also, he's eating whole homecooked meals and not junk food. As long as his parents help him revert back to healthy portion sizes in future, hopefully he'll be okay. It is an immense sacrifice not without risk and he's an amazingly sweet boy, but at the same time it's still a healthy weight range or the hospital would not have allowed it.

But on the other side, for me it's easy to lose weight so it creates problems too. As I Said in the previous comment all my life I have been underweight, when I was in 7th grade I had a massive growth during summer and with my type of body I became too skinny even for my standards. To the point my PE teacher noticed, called my Mother to the school, and Said that I had to see a doctor and check if everything was okay. Sorry for bad English or mistakes but I'm not native.

@Nathanel wardana She is the same citizenship as her mom and the marriage was only registered in the country she holds the citizenship. After my divorce her mom has full legal rights over my kid than me being a foreigner. It was a bitter divorce as I caught my ex two timing me. Though I should have all the rights to get custody of the child, I couldn't because of different citizenships and bereucracy nonsense. I am back in my country now so all I can do is call. My ex makes it hard for me to speak to my child. Its called parental alienation. When I visit, my ex doesn't allow me to enter the property. Hence its a struggle to just see my kid. Mind you I am still paying child maintenance. I fight on in hopes to see a brighter day with my child. I will never give up on her...
