One of my FAVORITE Feeny Eric moments in the show. Feeny's unyielding encouragement of Eric and defense of his potential. All rights for "Boy Meets World" belong to Disney and ABC.

Feeny is who I emulate when I teach. I had a teacher in 3rd grade, Ms. Nancy Mangalardi. She taught me, she taught my sister, she taught most of my family. The thing that set her apart from all the other teachers is that she never gave up on a student, not even one the principal herself had given up on. And today I'm now a successful sales manager at a pharmaceutical company and I teach religious ed.

Tai Kessler why is teaching a religion not a success? If it’s an honest good job where he works hard don’t put him down for it. Just because his job may not be a job where he makes a bunch of money doesn’t make it a bad place. If he likes what he does and he is passionate about it then that is the only thing that counts.

For those who didn't know, Eric called the tutor the night before the exam asking for help. She insisted on just giving him the answers, but Eric expressed no interest in cheating. Ms. Heart reiterated by saying how hard the test is. Then Eric caved while she supplied him the answers. As a tutor, Heart was ONLY interested in Eric's looks which is disrespectful. Then she verifies this by demeaning Eric saying he is not the booksmart type. It's even more cruel because Eric didn't snitch on Ms. Heart. Feeny gave her grace by not firing her. She got off very easy.

He always loved Eric as his own son which he did not have. It was so obvious in so many scenes they had together. In the last goodbye episode when Shawn says "come on you know we were your favorite students" that was so true. They were more then his favorite students, they were all like his kids. I had a teacher that always comes to my class' high school reunions and still remembers all of us. And its been 23 years now and 30 of us.

It's honest, though. No matter what she was thinking when she gave Eric the answers, she was convinced that he couldn't do it by himself. Whether she likes him as a person or not, the second you convince yourself that someone can't succeed on their own hard work, you admit to having no respect for that person's intelligence. Everyone can learn. You just have to put the effort into finding the method that works for them.

The point Feeny was making was that she _wasn't thinking_ . She saw cute Eric, was easily taken in by his dumb act because it seemed natural to be taken in, and, without realizing it, operated under an assumption that didn't respect him or his potential. I am reminded of the last scene in the series where Shawn tearfully tells Feeny that he "never gave up on me, not once." That's the way you've gotta be as a teacher, which I can say after 49 years of teaching, and counting. (August, 1973 to October, 2022) Sadly, there are plenty of students who give up on themselves. I myself, in college science and math courses after having very supportive teachers from elementary to high school, who treated me as an individual instead of as a number on a printout. Unfortunately, I didn't have college science and math teachers like Feeny. Fortunately, I did have tons of them in other courses. Same in grad school. Some who gave up on you, sometimes cruelly, if you weren't a star student, and some who had confidence that you could learn what they had to offer and use it productively. After all, a teacher doesn't teach a student anything. A teacher guides a student in learning. Even if you're giving a lecture, it has to build on the previous lectures and you have to help the students make the connections, so that they learn to do so on their own and continue to do so after they are no longer in your class. Feeny does this here with the Normandy invasion example. If you don't actually believe the student can learn, and the student doesn't either, partly because you don't, what level of guidance are you going to give him or her?
@tonypayne39036 жыл бұрын
One thing I appreciate from this scene - Mr. Feeny asks Eric who gave him the answers, only for Eric to say it was someone "last year". Just as Mr. Feeny was ultimately proud of Cory for not ratting out Shawn earlier in Season 2 about the "Weeny" thing, he didn't press Eric any further after Eric gave this answer. Some nice consistency between the, even if wasn't intended.

I was always saddened that Eric got dumber, sometimes to the point of absurdity, as the series progressed. It paints this moment with a hint of tragedy because, most of the time, no one took Eric seriously because he acted more and more like a fool.

I still struggled with it for a very long time, but I did eventually learn. He kept explaining it to me, in various different ways and he didn't quit until I got it. One of the best lessons ever. I remember this episode. Ms. Hart was a really bad tutor, and everything. She really made Eric feel dumb and low of himself by giving him those answers; and then she ended up telling on herself, but Eric is the dumb one? I think she underestimated him. She should have worked with him harder. But in the end, those two learned it’s not about looks, it’s about smarts, courage, and actually trying. The only way you be successful is if you try; use your damn head. Because looks fade. Show some effort, some enthusiasm, something.

He commanded so much respect, and the students knew he actually gave a shit... that making them reflect upon these mistakes was enough to set them on the right path. I would say I was blessed enough for SOME of my teachers growing up to be like this, and they were the ones that made me a better person. God this show was so good lol.

"I didn't think he was the student type" Wow, insulting him as he was standing right next to her. She really did write him off.

"How could you do this to me Eric?!" "I DIDN'T". Once again she assumed the negative about him. And if you notice, even though the camera pulled behind him, you could see his head move so he clearly gave her the look that said "YOU did... to yourself." Showing at the absolute least he may not be the smartest, but he's loyal.

i can relate, i had a few teachers during my school life that were wonderful and taught me alot one was my 3rd grade teacher, she was kind and patient, then there was my second year second grade teacher Ms. Marybelle she was so much sweeter and kid friendly then my first second grade teacher and first grade teacher combined, then my jr, high p.e. teachers who pushed me to not give up, along with them my drama teacher was cool, in high school there was a few small amount of teachers that helped me a lot like my math teacher, i wasn't much of a great student to him at first throughout my high school i mostly had him for a math teacher but he was patient and kind and showed me that I'm smarter than i think and helped me understand more of the material which made him my favorite math teacher, he said to me by the end of senior year how proud he was of me and wrote a sweet note on my yearbook, then there were my resource teachers they were awesome they knew how to push us all to do better :) i am forever grateful for my teachers who inspired me to be the best i can be and work to find my potential and that i'm not worthless or stupid

another show even before boy meets world got to the point where they used more mature subject matter, took a few more risks, and respected kids, adolocents, teenagers, and adults alike that they would get the jokes. They never toned it down just to be polically correct or afraid of offending anybody. That show was Mr. Belvedere

It's amazing to me that William Daniels never won an Emmy for this role. He should've taken home a few for his work on this show.

It feels weird to see KITT from KR, and then Mr Feeny as a teacher in BMW. Pretty funny though, hearing Daniels without that robotic filter KITT's voice box has.

Did you also know that his voice was recorded in after episodes were shot? David basically talked into air pretending he was carrying on conversations with KITT. David and Daniels later met at a cast party

Wow, this is waayyy deeper than I remember it. I looked up Will Friedle again because I'm watching a podcast he recorded with Brandon Sanderson. In a strange full circle, the actor who plays Mr. Feeney sounds so much to me like Michael Kramer, the man who voiced the audiobooks for all of Sanderson's major fantasy works. They sound so alike aside from the American versus British accent.

It was a great touch not having her apologize to Feeny or Eric. It shows the shame she feels and that she knows she does not deserve a second chance. An apology will not make up for what she did and Feeny knows that, she needs to be better and feeny being the wonderful man he is will hold her to that until she learns from her mistake. This is how great people give lessons

It was a show for kids my age in the 90s but Im now 35 and a lot of these scenes and clips hold up. Yeah it's a 90s sitcom but it's not neon bright like kids shows today and I think the adult actors really did a lot to make it a little better and not just... "On this week's very special episode of boy meets world."
