Learn Boyle's law completely. According to this P. V = constant. But here we use quill tube to prove Boyle's law. Quill tube is a capillary tube. Compare to it's length its breadth and height are negligible. So we consider only its length. So P. L= constant proved means indirectly we prove PV= constant.

Hi Indu... I will explain clearly . OK. quill tube is a closed tube. That means one end is closed other end open. At the middle portion we observe mercury column. OK. Air column length means the distance from closed end to mercury one end (closed end side). 👍

Hello Lakshmi... Air pressure acts on the mercury. So mercury no comes out side. Length of the air column is measured from closed end to lower end of mercury using fixed scale. For better understanding watch the video again 👍

Hello Maahimalatha... I will explain clearly. Quill tube అనేది 50 cm scale కు fix చేయబడి ఉంటుంది. దానిలో One end is open and another end is closed OK. మధ్యలో mercury column ఉంటుంది. Closed end నుండి mercury వరకు కొంత air ఉంటుంది. So 50 cm scale తో నే air column length measure చేస్తాము. Quill tube లో closed end నుండి mercury వరకు గల Length ను air column length గా తీసుకుంటాము. No. There is no rule to compulsory. But if you learn logarithms correctly you feel calculations part is easy

If you placed quill tube first vertically closed end downward and open end upward. Measure the height of mercury column nearer to open end from the ground is h1. Height of the mercury column nearer to closed end from the ground is h2. Similarly measure the reading through out the experiment

Jashuva.. h1= vertical height of the mercury from the ground ( closed end side) h2= vertical height of the mercury from the ground( open end side) Length of the air column is measured using 50 cm scale, which attached to the quill tube. *Watch the video again with earphones* l explained clearly.
