Are you KIDDING, the director? Smdh, no props to that horrible director Kimberly Pierce, she's a straight up horrible human. To claim that you researched the story about Brandon Teena for 5 years and then have the audacity to do an interview and disrespect Brandon by calling him SHE the entire time is just a slap in the face. Plus in the movie she has Brandon's character say he's an azzhole more than once, she made it seem as if it was a game to Brandon getting women. Plus how she portrayed Lana Tisdale and her mother, making it seem as if her mother was a trashy drunk, making it seem as if Lana was a trashy drunk, druggie with no future ahead of her. Nope, no respect whatsoever for the director who so called researched Brandon's life for 5 years. I mean she didn't even put Philip Devine in the movie because he was black and she didn't want to explain how he came into the picture. Then she has every character literally portraying the characters with their own names except for Lisa Lambert who's name was Candace in the movie. Like that made no sense whatsoever because she definitely didn't have Lana's or her mothers permission to use their names. Thankfully Lana sued her because of it and other thing's about the film and she won. So nope, no respect for Kimberly pierce, someone else should of done the directing, maybe someone who actually cared and would show respect because KP surely didn't. You should look that interview up, you would see what I'm talking about, she disrespected Brandon so badly, literally a slap in the face.

The only thing that Teena ever said on record was: "I have a sexual identity crisis" Swank is very careful not to presume how Teena defined herself - whether lesbian or a man or any infinite number of possibilities, so it is misgendering and anachronistic to refer to Teena as "He", at least without stating "he or she".
@ripplermirage207
@ripplermirage207 3 жыл бұрын
@@fellowcitizen By your very own logic, you just misgendered Brandon yourself. You wrote "how Teena defined herself" instead of "how Teena defined himself or herself." Defaulting to the feminine pronoun without having evidence that Brandon used it is just as "misgendering and anachronistic" as assuming Brandon used the masculine one.

Damn the movie is so hopefully but so depressing so glad that this movie was made in 1999 you didn’t really see these types of movies like this back then I think we all can agree that some people should stop being transphobic, homophobic or biphobic because life is too short as we can with the 3 innocent people who tragically died . Such a tragic story man..

Its a great movie and I love it and I cherish it till this day. However, it felt more like a lesbian film rather than a transgender film. Certain scenes like the scene when Brandon fixes his hair back to the way it was because Lana asks him if he changed it and she didn't seem pleased about it. The scene where Brandon is fresh out the shower and constantly looking at himself in the mirror, styling his hair like a Masculine lesbian would. The way that they present Brandon in the movie is as if he is just a lesbian who only passes as a man to get away with his forbidden desires. They gave him this feminine touch as if he was a female deep down but only choosing not to be... Btw, Hilary swank was perfect in this and she did her part very well.

The real Brandon had a feminine touch, according to his many many gfs. But that's why they liked him so much because he was gentle and knew what made them happy. Nothing wrong with that anyways. He liked fighting and cars and women, can't get more manly than that 🙃

@@TransformersTalkRAWI think what's cringe is lack of respect for what others believe they are or what they believe in. But also, as a trans man myself, it's understandable that not everyone will or needs to conform to the beliefs of others. People can call me a woman if it makes themselves feel better, it also doesn't bother me cause there's nothing wrong with it.
