That intro to "Lowdown" with the drums and popping bass gets me every time. It just explodes. And it's such a killer song that was all over the R&B radio stations in 1976. It became such a funky summer groove and was easily one of the finest soul records of that year.

Thanks Mazzy for schooling me on Boz Scaggs. I'm sixty-five, have Silk Degrees, had Middle Man, but forgot he was with Steve Miller, and also he did his debut in 69 with Duane Allman! I've got some more shopping to do! Thanks again, brother!

Hello from the UK where Boz Scaggs is very underrated so I was able to pick up 9 of his records on vinyl for less than £10 each, including Memphis! I love the diversity of his music and it is difficult to rate his albums in any sort of order but I do really like Memphis and Slow Dancer. Unfortunately the pressing quality on Boz Scaggs is not brilliant but I got that mainly for 'Give me a dime' which is brilliant. Keep up the good work, I've not seen many reviews on Boz Scaggs' albums.

Thanks, Mazzy. I loved the songs that I'd heard from Boz. I knew Loan Me A Dime from the Duane Allman's Anthology. For whatever reason, I had not bought any of them until after I bought and loved Silk Degrees. I didn't care much for what I heard of Down Two Then Left and lost rack of him. You let me know on this video that he had dropped out for 8 years. I either read a review or heard something from Memphis, and bought it. What an album! I love the whole record, but espoecially enjoy his take on Steely Dan's Queen Of The Quarter. I love those first few albums, but slow dancer is, like you said, something outstanding. In my mind he is a crooner, with a knack for giving his all to blues, soul, and rock. We're All Alone, and especially Harbor Lights for example. I've had Jump Street running through my head since I started watching this. Have you heard the Boz album from 65? It was originally released in one of the Scandinavian countries, I think Norway. I have never heard it. I was lucky enough to se him and his backing band in 2022 at a relatively small venue here in Colorado Springs, 1,918 seats. I was expecting to see a great show, and they blew me away. The gentleman (kid) who played lead wasn't Duane, but you almost couldn't tell the difference on Loan Me A Dime.

Another great video Mazzy about an artist who remains underrated at least in the UK. Thank you. His self titled album is my favourite and I would rate it as a masterpiece. Did you know another SF conection to this album. Donna Jean Thatcher is on backing vocals who went on to join the Dead as Donna Jean Godchaux and marry Keith.

I have always loved Boz. All of it. Grew up in the 70s, and Silk Degrees was everywhere. But his voice continues to be great and his latter LPs are a treasure. Agree with you. He doesn't disappoint. He's just a real pro and an adult. Great video. Thanks.

Well done Mazzy. My #1 is Moments. Downright Women is my favorite song on that record. I had my copy professionally cleaned but it didn't make much of a difference. His previous album, Boz Scaggs, sounds wonderful with my Speakers Corner version. I wish they would do Moments. BTW, Fade Into Light, is a wonderful record and I think you may want to give it another listen. The quality of the cd I have of it is audiophile quality for a cd. Joe

Boz is a fairly recent discovery for me. I knew of Lido but that was about it....until I saw/heard " Desire " quite by accident on KZfaq. I immediately bought the Dig album, and now I'm only missing 2 or 3 from his catalogue. My favourites ( at the moment) are Dig, Some Change and Come On Home. It's so nice to discover a new (to me) favourite artist at 55 years old. I have indeed been missing out......... I'm now going to listen to Boz Scaggs Band album again, after your glowing review. Love your channel.😊

Miss Sun, Pain Of Love, Ask me nuthin, I got your Love. I mostly come in with the 70s. “My Time” is fantastic, “Slow Dancer”

Huge improvement sonically. One Boz catalog unit missed on your count down (in my humble opinion) - Boz Scaggs Greatest Hits Live. In my personal top 5. I have the DVD and the double CD versions. Year 2004. Recorded at Great American Music Hall. San Francisco.

Hi Mazzy - long time - no speak.... Hey, Boz is sooooo very cool. We saw him in 2006, or so, (as I recall...) at a theatre in Philly. He was absoltuley great. But the unique thing was at that show, he played at such an LOW volueme.... it was the most unique show that I've seen in that regard ,in my life - but he was great. Boz is cool. I love that "Dig"album, so many fantatic songs on there, "King of El Paso" among them.. And, as far "Silk Degrees" goes - we LIVED with that album in my dormatory at college in those years - so many great memories of that, and that time in '77, and onward. Okay, I gotta get that "Fool to Carel" record!!!! Peace out from over here on the East Coast, my brother....

His Sailor album also has 2 different covrrs & names. Besides Sailor, thete is also the same album, slightly different cover ,called Living In The USA. On that album, if you listen with headphone to the 1st song, " Song For Our Ancestors " you can actually " hear the sun rise!" [ at least you could when i was a college student. I remember first hearing "Loan Me a Dime" (with that great Duane Allman solo) on FM radio back in college and bought his self-titled LP for that song. I have or have heard most of these. Agree, there is no bad Boz. My no. 2 is Memphis, just hangs together in a special way, great tunes, Boz sounds great, really warm and soulful. No. 1 is Down Two Then Left. Heard Silk Degrees dozens of times when it was released, loved every song. This came out and sounded like a dud. No hits, nothing obvious jumped out. Never got rid of it though and would play it from time to time. Finally it stuck and today I absolutely love it. I can play it start to finish and then over again. Is it “great”? Who knows and I sure don’t care. It is my go to Boz and probably a top 50 album for me. Plus, for obvious reasons, the vinyl is dirt cheap 😂

I don't know why Mazzy keeps apologizing for liking great records. When I was at the college FM, at least some of us student DJs were happy to play *Silk Degrees* in the same hour (but probably not the same *set* ) as a cut off The Jam's *Setting Sons* (BTW, I haven't replaced either of those LPs in my library with CDs... yet!)

Right. So you're a HUGE Boz Scaggs fan even though you're not including 4 albums on this list because, you know, reasons (particularly Down Two Then Left, which, had you included, might have lent some legitimacy to this exercise). And I love the part where his albums of standards rank solidly in the middle of his entire catalogue. Mm-hm. Also, yes, calling Slow Dancer Silk Degrees several times while holding physical copies of it in your hand probably means you should see a physician. But what a GREAT VIDEO from a guy who clearly loves music.

Yes I tripped over my lips and included an * with a correction in the description about exchanging the wrong album title. Mistake. Since I don’t have four records I didn’t include them since I haven’t listen to them in decades. I’ll seek them out.

Well done champ. You've taken passive aggressive to a new level. I hope to see more smarmy comments from you in the future. Very entertaining.

I mentioned at the beginning the four albums I no longer have, so those were not included 🎸

The loan me a dime album is my favourite followed by dig. Memphis would be number three. Silk Degrees would be number 4.
