With the Steve Miller Band for their first two albums, Boz Scaggs carved out an inimitable niche for himself and soared on his own with many hits starting in the 70's.
"Lowdown" is a Billboard hit originally recorded in 1976 by Boz Scaggs for his mainstream-breakthrough album, Silk Degrees. The song was co-written by Scaggs and David Paich. Paich, along with fellow "Lowdown" session musicians David Hungate and Jeff Porcaro, would later help form the band Toto. The song's production, as well as Scaggs' laid-back vocal, gave "Lowdown" a smooth, Soul/Disco feel.

I was working at Footlocker and this young white girl about 18 bought Silk Degrees for my birthday. Then later I bought the eight track tape and headed to LA with brother 5 years older. We went and picked my second oldest brother amd headed for Mexico.. We saw the blow hole by Ensenada.. Then we headed back across country to Phoenix, Az to a disco then Albuquerque to another disco.. Meanwhile on the highway we were playing the Silk Degrees album and Boogie Nights off the Heat Wave album ‘Too Hot to Handle..Great times traveling country in an old Ford truck with camper.. Remember those..LB May 2021

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I first saw Boz live in 2017 at the Melody Tent in Hyannis, Ma. opening for Michael MacDonald. He absolutely floored me! OMG!!! Where have I been. I was fortunate enough to see him again in concert at the same venue in 2018 and was blown away. I'm 72 years old and am totally in love with him! Trust me, grams can still rock out. His music reaches deep down into my soul and makes me remember the passion of our youth. Love you Boz and hope I see you again.

So damn good. The smooth restraint ..no rushing, just keeping cool right up to the bridge ... and the bass line descending in half notes down to the turnaround...and suddenly we’re back at the top .... like walking down the canyon streets of New York in the wee hours of the morning, the air tingling with anticipation and possibility. Scaggs is a national treasure . He writes and performs so well, his band is deep in the pocket and his awesome backup singers helping him soothe our souls.

I saw a lot of concerts when I was young in the 70's and 80's, I had no clue how fortunate I was to grow up with some of the best music in a century. Boz is an especially fond memory - he played for 2 hours and the time went by way too fast, it seemed like only 15 minutes. You just get lost in his smooth voice and those smooth bass licks. He could have played all night and sung us to sleep and that would have simply been heaven!!

Kelly, Short Version (probably not when done) Buttt, in Elementary school (can't remember the grade/when) the song/singer came up and I/ME said it was a Black Dude for I heard it on Black Radio all the time (though in hindsight I conveniently FORGOT: "Bennie and the Jets"/Elton, "Sara Smile"/Hall and Oates, "Fame"/Bowie, "Queen of my Soul" and "Cut the Cake"/AWB, War (with and w/o Eddie Burton), 3 Dog Night, Wild Cherry, and several KC and the Sunshine Band hits played all the time on R&B radio at the time:)). And since I was quite smart for my age at the time, OTHER (mostly Black but not all) idiots agreed with my MIT (Level) Expert Analysis. Can't recall which (White) Student challenged my R&B Intellect but it started a mini Civil Rights Discussion:). When the teacher grew weary,...MR WHITE (true name, I swear) chimed in, "Does it really matter if the singer was Black?" To my credit, I (and others) said "No, not really" but MR WHITE saw in our Stupid Little Faces, some form of closure was needed,..he then "Sighed" and said, "Since you have to know, he's White" I swear we all laughed!!! I own a ton of Boz in CDs and DVD.
@elizabethkeaton1213
@elizabethkeaton1213 7 жыл бұрын
MarkAntney Ha! I love it! "Black Radio" and Yang to its Yin, "White Radio" were really the terms we used in our collective vernacular until more recently, weren't they? Wow. We've come a long way towards more accurately naming genres (Hip Hop, Rock, R&B, etc.), and refreshingly less able to put people of any one color in any one box (think The Beastie Boys and Living Color, both of whom ROCK! Um, or is that uh...BUMP?!). ;-) Who cares, right?! All of the above for this lady, thank you very much! ;-) EITHER way, music has been like air for me since pretty much the first day of my life. I haven't got a nanobit of musically creative talent (or for spatial direction, or eyeballing measurements, for that matter!), but had I been blessed with any, I'd have been inclined to learn guitar and piano. It turns out I WAS paying attention when appreciation for music was being passed out, and there's no shortage of supply to become skilled at that in this life, thankfully. And, I'm not sure if it's true, but not too long ago I heard it said somewhere that music is the only thing that engages our entire brain at one time. I'm picturing a colorful PET scan film of a person's whole brain lit up while listening! Curiosity will insist I do some fact finding on this... So thanks for sharing this in such a rich and funny way. It took me right back to that time in childhood when one by one the things we understood late in or first decade made way for more accurate realities and left us forever less innocent somehow. Often the peeling back of layers brought on by this natural progression of development were like a sad little loss. For certain, always impossible to unknow once we 'knew'. Some were just funny, like "...'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy!"! So thanks, Jimi! We all dig THAT one! But I digress. I'm guessing that we're probably from similar times (I was born in '67) from the song we're talking about here. Love the visual of a teacher bringing in the jury for good on this white dude Boz Skaggs, huh?! Wonder if any kids in your class that day got to go blow their friends out of the water by knowing he was white. Cool points? Check!
