10:06 "Clear" is now located on the "Montage Sections" tab over on the right (if you can't see it, click Window > Montage Sections). Now, instead of clicking "PunchStart" and then on "Punch1" as shown in the video, simply click on the square button beside "PunchStart" and choose "Punch1" as the next section. You should be able to follow along from here, just using this new method. :-)

The new Animation Montage editor is SO much easier than the old version shown here! You can now just grab the purple Montage "sections", which look like timeline markers, and just drag and snap them to the starts of the different clips in the Montage. Huge workflow improvement-- thank you Epic Games! :-) PS: If you want to zoom your timeline in/out, just hold Ctrl and use the mouse wheel, or drag the edges of the scroll bar at the bottom. Shift+mouse wheel will scroll the timeline.

16:31 The drop-down to set the slot is now located by clicking on the down arrow on the "DefaultGroup.Default Slot" on the left side of your timeline, and choosing Slot Name > DefaultGroup.UpperBody. There seems to be a bug in 4.26.2 that causes the animation to not play after switching slots, so to "wake it up", you need to just move one of the purple section markers then hit "undo". After that, the animation will begin playing again.

You can also duplicate the Default slot and then change its name (after adding a new slot in the slot manager). Delete original. Also works.

Im on version 4.14.3 and there is no "show advanced options", instead you need to click on the "All Bones, Active Sockets" button at the bottom of the skeleton tree panel, it has an eye beside it, then click on "Show Retargeting Options".

In current version instead of advanced options you click the skeleton tab on the left side (you should see skeleton or asset details), then click option > Show Retargeting Options. The Slot manager also doesn't open in a new window but instead opens in the bottom right by the asset browser.

15:40 There is no Magnifying Glass icon anymore to open the Anim Slot Manager, so just go to Window > Anim Slot Manager to open it, or click on the down arrow at the corner of "DefaultGroup.DefaultSlot" and select "Slot Manager" from there.

in punching montage, we created a slot. its name is upper body slot.. if i play with default slot, it works fine. but with upper-body slot it doesn't work. the character stand still in upper-body slot.! how to fix that.?

Tip: when setting the bones animations to follow skeleton, set upperarm_l and upperarm_r (along with their children) to animation instead, which makes the punches look less stupid!

for version 4.24 everything but root and pelvis are set to skeleton on start-up, which saves some time.

How do you pause the animation in the Animation Preview of the Montage? How do you add the notifies between punch1 and punch2 in the Notifies Section of the Montage?

Ok i am using ue4.19.2 and when i changed that default slot into 'UpperBody' slot my animation stopped and character became a T-pose figure. He is not animating when i press play in persona.

You need to add the UpperBody slot to your animation blueprint.

Hey... i'm watching from tutorial 1 to 17 straight forward with a lot of coffee, pretty addictive. Quick doubt, probably you mentioned it, I didn't fully understand the difference between animation montaje and a Blend Space 1D. How do you know when to use each one?... for me is the same situation Jump and Punch, bout are actions... Thanks again.

Vou assumir que vc é brasileiro/portugues e responder em portugues. Então, acredito eu, que a diferença entre os dois é que o Animation Montage permite vc misturar duas animações, por exemplo, correr e dar socos.

blenspace it's for a range of speed or something like that and montage its for making a sequence of animations

A blend space is to declare how certain animations will transition into each other. You'll notice that for the State Machine, we didn't set up a blend space but could still manually setup a "blend" by saying at what point we should transition between animations. This Montage process is meant to sit on top of the Blend Space or State machine, so that you can punch while running/jumping without having to create new animations or a separate state machine for that process.

In UE 4.20, ADVANCED OPTIONS is not there, instead to the upper left, under SKELETON TREE tab, press OPTIONS, tick SHOW RETARGETING OPTIONS.

As far as I can tell you ONLY need to set "thigh_twist_01_l" and "thigh_twist_01_r" to Skeleton, everything else messes up other animations like Idle and Run.

whenever i try to save slot it says error saving, and when i ignore it and change the default group slot to the upperbody slot it stands still

2:35 In 4.26.2, there is no "Show Advanced Options" toggle, instead click on the "Options" button beside the search bar in the Skeleton Tree and select "Show Retargeting Options".

While doing the SK_Mannequin_Skeleton section and when i finished and save the file its showing an error message like - (SK_Mannequin_Skeleton.Uassert) cannot be save as the package is locked because you are in the play on PC mode Can the the answer to solve this problem please.

Okay im having an issue it just randomly stops playing he like freezes after a sec or two. It can play in reverse fine but regular it won't play.

My Unreal Engine stops answering whenever I try to play through the punching montage when it has all been set up. I have to go through the Task Manager to close it. Any one had something similar happen to them?

Sorry for the very late answer, if anyone searches for this animation it can be found in the Unreal Content Example inside the animations map. The character punches the wall, its an ik example. Perhaps there is another download link specific to this tutorial, but there are a lot of goodies inside the content example project its really worth a look into.

+Boris Willis I had trouble at this point as well, but it turns out you need to right click on the vertical green line to be able to delete sections. It's totally unintuitive and I wish he had explained that in the video.
