I agree. My guess would be a) the crowd is too young to appreciate Van Halen or probably to even know who he is b) the majority of people in the audience don’t have an understanding or appreciation of musical ability and just want to hear the songs performed exactly like they hear them on the album. But hey, sometimes that’s what it takes to get the wheels turning in some young folks heads and, later on, they realize and appreciate what they heard and saw.

Most of those country cats have ridiculous chops - they just barely and rarely use them. My cousin has played bass with Dolly Parton band, Tanya Tucker, etc for years playing what to most people just sounds like basic "root - fifth - root - fifth" stuff, but there is more subtlety and nuance to it than a lot of folks realize, and this is someone with a music degree who can rip into some Jaco Pastorius type stuff at a drop of a hat - IF that's what the music needs.

@Brandon Meise lol. Dude you started the "pissing" contest. I hate today's country...and Brad Paisley isn't one of them. However, I would venture to say you don't know much about Brad Paisley? When you share the stage with arguably the best guitar player ever (Tommy Emmanuel) I'd say you are a pretty damn good guitar player.
@JMPK234 жыл бұрын
This exactly why I like brad. Great taste in music. Him playing in the game of thrones guitar cover video blew me away. I thought "hes country hows he gonna pull that off?" He gained a fan that day.
@britvox95z3 жыл бұрын
The thing that impressed me about his contribution was that, unlike the rest of the musicians, he hadn't rehearsed the tune. He sat in and listened, without playing, until it was his turn to solo and then played something that fitted in perfectly while still sounding like himself.

People!!! Just because people play country don't mean they don't like other stuff!! Brad Paisley, to me is the EVH of country music! This boy can play guitar. He may have wanted to be a rock star. In my opinion country music, new country has a rock taste to it! Country is HUGE wither you like it or not. The love of music is different for everyone. Brad KICKED ASS in this video!!

So true. I’m not really a huge country but love Brad’s music and he has incredible picking technique. I bet if you had a guitar duel between Brad and Eddy that Brad could play everything Eddy could but Eddy would struggle with some of Brad’s licks. Brad’s playing is pretty complex and he has tremendous picking technique with lightning fast runs. Eddy is more of a fret hand player and relied mostly on legatos, staccato, hammer-ons and pull-offs. Frankly Eddy wasn’t doing anything that Dick Dale wasn’t foing 20 years before him other than finger tapping.

So true. Not really a country fan but I love his music. He can play anything. Mind boggling country licks, blues, jazz, rock, you name it he can do it. Maybe short of Malmsteen style shredding. I don’t believe Eddie was the end all guitarist of the 80s. He was one heck of a writer but guys like Malmsteen, Lynch, and Rhoads had better chaps than Eddy. Eddy was mostly a fret hand player like the guys who came before him but took it to another level. Mostly legatos, hammer-ons and pull-offs. Brad is one hell of a player and has incredible picking technique.

Ryan Keith really it's justthe state of country music these days. If he were in the 70s he'd be classic outlaw but people don't want outlaws anymore. He's found a way to shred and write really good music within a lame format. Pretty impressive. Plus, he's one of the best players out there

I'm so glad he did this. Because it helps me make a point. I've been a country musician for about 33yrs and some of my friends think I'm weird or some kinda music tard when they hear me listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd or playing it on guitar in my spare time. Just because we might play one type of music, don't mean that we're not "schooled" in the other. I'm from SC and grew up on Southern Rock in the 70's.

Everybody is talking about Brad here, but his drummer deserves sooooo much credit… Alex Van Halen had to layer four different drum tracks to create the intro to ‘Hot For Teacher’ that ended up on the record and the drummer did a ridiculously amazing job getting that huge sound all by himself.
