I had a similar moment when I was about 14 with my music teacher. I had been trying for ages to figure out how to do thumbstyle stuff. He explained it the best he could but the only key is practice and eventually there is that lightbulb moment where it all just falls into place. My teacher to this day (although I don't lessons anymore from him) says he still can see my face when it clicked. Happiest guy in the world.

The greats keep coming and shining thru. Each Genre has their stars. They all respect (they should) the others that came before them and learned from them. If you want to master guitar, you have to learn all styles. The harder ones or ones that are different from your past, open your eyes to what's possible. They'll make you better for the effort. The fact that so many guitarist admire Brad, points to the level of his talent. Take note of that. I'm a fan.

Tonio Miklo Yngwie is just different, but I know what you mean. This stuff makes you think you might never 'get' it...but Yngwie's stuff always leaves the door open, so to speak.
@vincentreyes6154
@vincentreyes6154 5 жыл бұрын
Yngwie is an amazing metal guitarist, but Brad was the one who got me interested into being a lead guitarist. And when he played Chet's "Freight Train" on this video, I tried to learn it and realized how hard it was. Hybrid picking was normal for me, as I learned that style pretty early. But how you mix harmony and melody or bass and treble together like that takes hybrid picking or finger picking to another level. Just like the SSPX and the FSSP preserve the Traditional Catholic Latin Tridentine Mass, Brad preserves the picking style of Chet. Not to the same level, but in a way that shows that he knows how to play and in a way that shows how far people can go on the guitar. That's why even though I like Yngwie and Slash and Petrucci and Eric Johnson and Friedman and Young and Hetfield (especially Hetfield), Brad is always going to be the one who makes me pick up the guitar. He was, and still is, my greatest influence for the guitar. 🤠🎸💪👌😎

Still trying to break through that 12 year old Paisley level. From what people tell me is that it is an intuitive block that you eventually break through that allows you to not think about what the thumb is doing so much and finding that space during or between the notes to pick with your fingers. Hard to learn, but is like riding a bike, you never lose it once you have it. But I bet the reason Paisley messed up a little on Yankee Doodle Dixie is that he hasn't played it for years and years. He knew that he knew it but it had been a long time and the fingers needed a little bit of a refresher. Atkins was a legend, and a lot of kids nowadays have no idea who he was, or Merle Travis or Doc Watson. There are only a few left who still play that style. And great fingerpickers nowadays play very different styles of music. Andy Mckee for instance is a fabulous fingerpicker but is more known for his percussive guitar slapping that he does on a few songs.

Saying Brad was greater than Jimi is heresy. No one could take guitar to the level that Jimi did. Or Chet with acoustic. But in terms of guitarists from the modern era (21st Century,) I agree with you 100%. He's not the best, that goes to either Satriani or Petrucci, but Brad's style and taste for music is so diverse and versatile that no other (mainstream) guitarist or musician has done. John 5 tried, and Wylde did too. But Brad, whew, watch out world. But he's by far the greatest country guitarist. 100/10 to my favorite country guitarist and musician. 🎸💪😎
@cam_ferguson_official
@cam_ferguson_official 5 жыл бұрын
Well, if we're being real here, sure, Brad plays stuff that's way more technically demanding than Jimi. There's lots of guitarists that can claim that, including the metal heads that have been mentioned all over this comment board. When people say Jimi was the greatest of all time, they aren't talking about just his chops, but what he did as an innovator at the time he came along; playing rhythm and lead at the same time, his tone, his sound effects created with feedback and distortion, his approach to the using recording studio as an instrument, his untrackable spontenaity, and his SOUL. Not to mention he turned the guitar world in its head in the span of basically four years. That being said along with Jimi, I'd say Brad, Guthrie Govan, Van Halen and Jimmy Page (again not a shredder, but c'mon man, Zeppelin) are probably my favorites to listen to.

@monmixer

ahh, he didn't see you have to practice that until he screwed up.lol GNah, great stuff. I watched roger hoard play that stuff all of the time. Brad actually was taken under rogers wing and they even drug him around with their band 1170 that was named after WWVA 1170 call letters. He took lessons from roger as well. If you don't know who roger hoard is just type his name into youtube. he has some stuff posted. He is one of the best players alive. He used to plat with Jim Stafford a long time ago. he isn't really into the touring musician life style. he makes plenty playing here at home and we are in the secondary market place for sure.Not a lot going on around here. Especially since the Wheeling Jamboree was dropped from the AM radio and FM radio platform decades ago. Traditional country has taken quite the beating in the last 25 years. It's really sad. That stuff most of you all listen to today is NOT even close to traditional country. As a matter of fact most of it simply is NOT country music. It's rock and pop mixed.
