That's Tarantino hands down, and he's referring to a scene where in the movie Inglorious Basterds, where he actually strangles the actress in it. Fyi, it was Hans Landa's character that does this, but in reality those hands were of none another than Tarantino!

100% Dominic Sena. The movie "Kalifornia." People are saying David Fincher, but the question was, what was the direction..."HE got," not another cast member. In Kalifornia is the only movie Brad himself played a serial killer. He was a cop in "Seven." So the director (Fincher) wouldn't give BRAD that direct direction. And in OUATIH was directed by Tarantino, Brad played a stunt man and hero art the end. That specific direction doesn't make sense other than when Brad HIMSELF actually played a deranged killer.

The direction is basically; make sure you're in complete control, let go, and do it again. Its brilliant advice just worded incorrectly.

I did one high school play, and two community college plays, really not much of an actor. My first community college play, I worked with an actual successful director, who had worked on broadway, whose wife had decided to settle them in the suburbs of the suburbs of the suburbs to retire. We were far below the level of performance he was used to. When I tell this story, he always comes across as such a villain, but I swear he wasn’t a bad guy. He finished a run through and we were doing notes. He says to me, “You know that monologue you have at the end of your first scene? Can you do it better next time?” Me: “Sure thing! Anything in particular you want me to do?” Him: “No, just… better.”

I was doing a pilot once, when my costar thought he was going to be an "artist" and right before the scene, asked the director what his "motivation In the scene" was. The Director immediately responded "Your fucking paycheck! ACTION!" Which he then had to immediately call "Cut!" Because I was laughing my ass off. Almost two decades later and having once been a consultant for actors and models, that always stuck with me.
