I must be honest; I’m learning in the worst way possible just how destructive and pervasive misogyny is in society - whether it be the corporate world or the film industry. If Brad was a woman throwing a tantrum like this then he’d almost certainly be labelled “hysterical/mental/“chicken oriental”. That said, this is another brilliant piece of acting from a juicy-looking dude.

His eyes are welled with tears the whole time. It’s a great scene for him. He’s helpless now and without at least one friend to provide a net to fall on to he’s on a tightrope and slipping.

He’s right. It does matter. Movies make our lives much better and joyous. They make us laugh and cry and everything in between. They make us think about our own lives and allow us to live in the shoes of someone else all the while providing an escape from perhaps a less pleasant reality.

One of my favorite monologues from this film. Brad Pitt has too many to count ("Oh I'll never leave Montana brother" is still one of my favorite lines), but this reminds me of how one of my favorite fiction writers, Kafka, loved to drink beer and go to the vaudeville. So to hear that frankly stated here is just great. (although I had the pleasure of going to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre once I think, maybe for Spring Awakening (?) and that was great too)

Gourmet chefs always say they go to McDonald's as much as the next person. Maybe more...it's nice to know that having the opportunity to enjoy life's finer pleasures doesn't mean that one has to turn up one's nose at the coarser amusements. But, I do think it's important to at least be able to distinguish the difference. It's the only way, really, to avoid being manipulated by those who peddle crap.

@@weinrei5 - Thank You, but I need to catch up on reading Kafka and all the other Books like Dostoyevsky. I think Plan to read Crime and Punishment as my next book which I have never read (I may decide to read East of Eden instead, but i think I will try to give Crime and Punsihment a Try) Speaking of Kafka- I am reading a very Kafkaesque book now that I have been strongly recommending to people I wish it was Fiction, but it is not. That book is Robert F. Kennedy Jr's book- The Real Anthony Fauci. It is a very informative and mind-blowing book.

It's a great movie but it flopped because real people don't really care about the problems of movie stars in the movie bussiness. It's a self indulgent thing to believe that people will somehow relate with a world that is fascinating but distant from our lives.

That makes sense except that some of the most successful and highly regarded films and TV series of all time are Goodfellas, Game of Thrones, Citizen Kane, The Dark Knight, The Sopranos, and a great many westerns. Most people aren't Mobsters, Nobles, Buisness Magnates, Superheroes, or Cowboys, and yet hundreds of millions of people have found these stories deeply personal and engrossing, and they've certainly made more than their fare share of money. These are all fascinating but distant worlds, that's not a reason people don't see movies. My 2 cents is that a majority of people saw a movie about Golden Age Hollywood starring Margot Robbie as a young up and comer beset on all sides by tragedy and an aging and charming, yet declining Brad Pitt, and thought this was just a rehash of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by a far less prestigious director, that also had a 3+ hour runtime which is enough to kill just about anything even without mixed critical reviews.

@@natbrownizzle1387 Just to be clear: I really liked the movie, but we can't ignore that there was a reason why people didn't watch it. Hollywood from the 50's is not interesting to a mainstream audience. That's what the movie was selling - debauchery and excess against the backdrop of Hollywood in the 50's. I imagine it was similar to Brad and Angelina's relationship. You know, when she would behave as though she were some sort of elitist snob, parading around with her nose held high, looking down on people in her expensive dresses and multi-million-pound houses. He was likely tired of it. She used to seem so cool in late ’90s though.
