I was just about to write that! :) Some mamas are really cool and know what to say. They where there too once, right? When I was a teenager and had haved a hard night out, when I came home in the morning... my mama just looked at me and asked "Do you need a bucket?". That one hit home much harder than any yelling. And I NEEDED that damn bucket.

Released in 1970 by 3 Dog Night was actually a Cover of the original...It was written By Randy Newman for Eric Burdon' and the Animals in 1966...Randy also released the song...Momma told him not to go to the party!...with all the Drinking...I looked at My girlfriend...she passed out on the floor!!

"Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison is the song Lex was thinking about that has a similar sounding note progression as that little electric piano part in this song. :)

3 dog night was one of my mom's favorite bands. They are so good and their music is just fun. Watching their live videos really shows you how great a band they were.

I haven't heard that in a while, it really is fun. To me one of their most powerful songs is called, One is the Loneliest Number. That will really stick in your head.

You guys need to start reacting to these songs being played on the old Midnight Special music show from the 70’s. This way you could the band give live performances. You would appreciate this music so much more!

When young, Three Dog Night was my favorite band. So many good tunes! From the rocker Liar, to fun songs like Joy To The World & Shambala, to pretty tunes like Piece of April.

My Dad LOVED Three Dog Night...I grew up hearing all their music..My personal favorite is "Never Been Spain"..SPOT ON LEX with the 60s going into 70's aspect of the song..Excellent review/reaction!!!

Hoyt Axton gave them Jeremiah. They also covered "never been to spain". That is the most soulful song they did . It is a song that could be sung in spoken word or a country ballad. They sang it the way he couldn't . He didn't offer the stones,zeppelin, Clapton. He new these guys could sing it soulful not to overdo it .

Man, Lex nails it every time in placing songs in the era when they came out! I remember this playing all the time on the radio when I was in junior high school, which would have been early 1970s. Several more great songs by Three Dog Night!

There is a live version of 3 Dog Night doing Eli's Coming. It lets you see the 3 guys having fun and is a real favorite of mine. For ever what that is worth.

Randy Newman wrote this song for Eric Burdon and then did a version himself. Both are also good. If you do a stream of original song's who have covers that became more famous, might try either the Randy Newman or the Eric Burdon version of this song.

I went to a 3 Dog Night concert in 76, it was epic and the light show was amazing. The song “Liar” was perfect. This ‘Old School’ Rock head and #H.O.G. Dude loves the old rock.

Actually, Randy Newman, who has won an Oscar and Grammy for his music. wrote the song in 1966.

The bands name comes from an Australian Aberigional expresson from the practice of using their dogs to keep warm at nights on a freezing night (Yes it can get that cold in Aus) it was a Three Dog Night !!
