And then after you do "Black and White", and "Out In The Country" and "Liar", do "One" and after you do "One" do Australian John Farnham's live version of "One". John is the only singer that I've ever heard that has a strong enough voice to handle that song.

You should definitely react to Family Of Man and Black And White. Those two are representative of our 70s attitudes and hopes. Then One Is The Lonliest Number, Joy To The World aka Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog, Old Fashioned Love Song, Never Been To Spain, Out In The Country, Easy to Be Hard, Pieces of April, Celebrate, Sure as I'm Sittin Here, and Liar which is another dramatic one.

I also prefer the studio version. I don't need this long intro, and then the body of the song sounds rushed. But mainly, you can't hear the great piano and organ nearly as much as in this version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z6dimMillsjYpI0.html

Three Dog Night had 21 Top 40 songs in 6 years. You are so right. They can't be put in a box! They are amazing! The Soundstage concert was sooo good! They are not in the RRHOF! What a shame! Especially Cory Wells with that sexy soulful voice. Cory singing TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS was outstanding! Check it out. You will not be disappointed. Back in the day, we did not have the videos available like today. You hear Kiss, Rolling Stone, Elton John, even Michael and Elvis, you knew immediately who it was. TDN songs were so different from one another. Not one is the same as the other! No one was like them! Just amazing.

At the time they were on the radio, I recall Three Dog Night being criticized for not writing their own music. And it’s true. They didn’t write much, but they were great musicians and even better performers. Chuck Negron had a spectacular voice. They often took overlooked songs or ones that had been minor hits and turned them into massive hits with huge airplay. The first one of theirs I ever heard was “Easy to Be Hard”, a less-than-popular song from the musical “Hair” which Three Dog Night turned into a big hit. My favorite? “A Change Is Gonna Come”.

What's impressive about this is it was recorded in August of '75 when the group's end was in sight. They'd already lost original musicians Mike Allsup (guitar), Floyd Sneed (drums) and Joe Schermie (bass). By the end of the year, Danny Hutton (singer on the left) was gone, and the group disbanded in July of '76. They reformed in the 80's and a sort-of group still tours today. Unfortunately, Cory Wells (lead singer on this), Jimmy Greenspoon (piano) and Schermie have passed away.
