As one of your older viewers (I’m 66) this video brought back memories of my mum using rags to make ringlets in my hair as a child. After washing, she’d use the rags, then in the morning I’d have ringlets which I ran my hands though to soften. It was really comfy to sleep in too and no bed head!

YES. I have so many memories of sitting in the RV the night before a wedding, holding one end of a rag on my head while my mom worked, often explaining to another mom how to do it. Big family, lots of cousins, lots of weddings. Mom had both her younger girls in perfect ringlet curls without ever waiting for an open bathroom or even a power outlet. I might have to ask her to teach my husband how to do it. It would be fun to do again.

My favourite technique for heatless curls is putting my damp hair in a rope braid (the one with two strands where you twist each strand clockwise and twist them together counter clockwise or vice-versa). It gives me beautiful loose waves and it's so easy and quick to do, I feel it deserves more recognition.

I LITERALLY DO THIS! Though, what I do instead of the "braid" is make each strand into a bun that twists in itself, but still the counter-clockwise vise versa bit. It's a lot easier on my arms I think since I deal with chronic pain.

Love your videos. I learn so much from them. Just a note, the polka dotted tiny roller that you didn't like comes vacuum sealed for shipping. You are supposed to leave them out for a few hours to puff back out before using them. The curl ends up much like a foam roller and they are MUCH more comfortable to sleep in than foam rollers.

I'm another vintage hairstyle fan. After seeing this, I'm going to try out foam rollers. What size would you recommend for getting the 50s vintage curls? I'm a long time pin curl user, and the way I've always seen it done and the way I've always done it is to wind your hair around your fingers starting from the bottom, remove your fingers, and then roll it up to your scalp. It makes for a neater curl than what is done here. Once you've brushed it out, the end result is beautiful.
@17thcentury_girl
@17thcentury_girl Жыл бұрын
@@angelicasmodel for roller size it all depends on how curled you want your hair. For a typical 1950s hairstyle I'd recommend between a small and a medium. I do that method for pin curls too. I find that if I do the method used in the video, I end up pulling my hair out of the curl when I try to take it off my fingers. Though pincurls are time consuming so I might invest in that pin curl gadget 😅

I’d love to see you take your favorite 3 and do a full Mani head with them! Or even on an actual person because a big factor in lots of these is how realistic and comfortable they are to have on for several hours/overnight. AND if they don’t get all frizzy or kinked around the roots from the curlers being lived in/slept in. I know one thing that I have a hard time with when it comes to heatless curls is the weight of the curler pulling my roots super flat against my scalp and then not being able to get that volume back.

also, using straws is amazing because you can build curlers to your own perfect diameter by bundling different amounts! if one straw produces too tight a curl for your liking, bundle four, five, six etc and get a more voluminous curl! they're also totally reusable and don't absorb any moisture, so your hair will dry a little more quickly and you won't risk unrolling a soggy curler in the morning.

To make using them easier slide the sleeve on the rod first then hook the hair and pull the rod out of the sleeve. Also I find it easier to do small sections of hair as the larger sections tend to be extremely hard to pull through the sleeve.

The most effective heatless curl for me is my dressing gown tie, don't have to pay for any separate accessories. I bought the rod to try it but nowhere near as good as how my hair turned out with my dressing gown. Love you, Brad! Need your bro back on to do some more hairstyles. You're both great 👍 x

My mom used to use those spiral curler things all the time on my hair! She had a green and blue set. I would always dread sleeping in them cause the spirals are plastic and un comfy. But the results are amazing!!

As someone with long, stick straight, fine hair with almost no volume, the best hair hack I’ve found over the years is to blow it almost dry with some kind of volumizing spray and then twist it into a bun at the back of the crown and let it finish drying on its own. Gives it some volume and waviness. I really wish, I had known this trick while I was in school, could’ve totally skipped all the heat styling that never held up through the day anyway!

OMG! I’m old enough to remember when foam curlers were 1st introduced! Before that my mom used pin curls-bobby pins, true torture, tune in Tokyo -then rags, strips of paper bags, you name it, and then, thankfully foam rollers. The heavens opened and I heard the voice of angels. Hair innovations are truly liberating.

I use a pair of leggings! Put the crotch part on the top of your head kind of like you’d do with that TikTok product. Wrap both sides of your hair, and then you can pull the waistband down over the whole thing to create a cap/bonnet situation. I love how the curls turn out, and it helps with frizz too. Or doing French/Dutch braids.

I'm definitely sticking to the foam roller. I've got naturally wavy hair but it frizzes to hell and back unless it's dried in a curling structure, and the ringlets most closely resemble my perfect hair days.

I love the satin tube thing, the cons are it can make a weird dent in the hair on the top and it's maddening if you're a side sleeper. Also, the first one makes beautiful curls, but I feel like it causes breakage at the crown and you might just be better off using a good heat protectant spray with a curling iron.
@kalbert801
@kalbert801 Жыл бұрын
My favorite method, and not shown, is wrapping your hair around a bun form (I even use a satin covered one). Because its on top of your head, you can sleep in any position. Pulling hair through the bun center elevates the roots, preventing against the head creases and easing tension on your scalp. I'd post the tutorial that introduced me to the idea, but that seems tacky, lol Love to see Brad experiment with using bun forms to do heatless curls!
@Auhsa

The spiral thing is called a curlformer and they're easier to use if you assemble the hook and push the whole thing through the form beforehand and then hook the hair to pull through. To get it trough smoother it's a good idea to squish the silicon at the end so it's open, same when removing the hair from the form. Those curls last a LONG time, even for people with teflon hair like mine. They can be an absolute workout to get all the hair in since they will brutally reject too large sections of hair into a painful mess, so no cheating when the arms get tired. Still, absolutely worth the effort.

People say dogs often look like their owners and Brad's pup looks just like him in dog form. I'm all about wetting the hair, adding some foam and putting rollers in and sleeping in them or in the summer putting them in early in the morning and having it dry in a few hours. It's so easy and usually turns out great.
@BecauseICouldNotStopForDeath
@BecauseICouldNotStopForDeath Жыл бұрын
For the ones spinny, you said you liked (the first one you did) You're supposed to feed it in before you hook the hair. It's easier if you feed the blue thing into the spiral by the hook part because it's thinner. Other than that you did it perfectly!!! Glad the way I curl my hair made your top list!!! Heat curls never last but this last for two days if I don't brush it the first day but finger through my hair instead. Obviously, the second day's curls are like if I brushed the first day more wavy curls than curl, curls.

I have done the sock method quite a few times and it has never failed me except when I forgot to hairspray after unwrapping it. Braaaaaaad! Wet sets have to be brushed a lot and shaped into what you're after. So the pillow rollers (the b&w polka dot things) are perfect - and super comfortable. Foam rollers and pincurls are good too. Marilyn pincurled and then brushed her hair into those big waves. Those things will give you anything from Rita Hayworth to Veronica Lake - it's in the cut and how you brush it out. I'd really like to see you get into vintage hairstyling - it's fun!

Braids are my go-to for everyday waves. Easy to throw into a bun with claw clips, adding accents to pre-existing styles, and various other styles. Braids are a category of styling all their own tbh. Also braids help so much with keeping long hair clean and out of trouble during the work day, running errands, or even adventuring (like camping, backpacking, etc).

I french braid two sides of my hair at night, wear them for 2/3 days with a silk wrap at night, then take the braids out and have a curly day or two. Super easy and great for me as a chronically ill person as if I'm ill one day I literally don't have to worry about my hair at all.

I have been using the satin curling headband for YEARS and love it. I've tried using velcro and foam rollers but always struggle with them leaving a bump at the top of my head -- might be user error but I digress. The headband is also pretty easy for me to sleep in once I got used to it and takes like half the time of any other method I've tried once I got the hang of it.

The straw thing is recommended for refreshing the curls of those old My Little Ponies with the long ringlets. Of course after it's pinned (bobby pin over hair and into the straw on both ends) you dip it into boiling water to set. Next week, on but I didn't ask, Nana, how to knit backwards.
