Hi Jane, if your hair is shoulder length or longer I recommend using blow dry spin brushes for the back. I'm a professional hairstylist and a hair appliances junkie, every professional and non-professional hair appliance that comes out, no matter how bizarre or cheesy looking I have to try it. Most of the time it's a waste of my money, as the box in my basement can attest to, but I love my blow dry spin brush. However, I'll give you a couple of tips to use it successfully since I read complaints on Amazon that are because women are not using them properly. First off this is a STYLING appliance NOT A BLOW DRYER so you have to rough dry like Brad suggests in video. You want it 90-95% dry, especially at the root because unlike when your drying with a blow-dryer and a brush this appliance does not dry the root at all and for your hair to look great and last THE ROOT AREA MUST BE DRY! The brushes are large mine is 2" but they have 1.5" now as well and the bristles are very soft, which is to lessen the possibility of tangling. It can still tangle though so it is really important to section your hair. I do three sections the crown are, the occipital area and right below the occipital bone, which is were I start styling. My hair is medium texture with a lose curl pattern fairly thick and using sections this large I'm able to finish about 20 minutes. I break both bottom sections into four sections each clipping them the way Brad does in the video when I'm done. In the crown area (top of my head) I take smaller sections to get more volume. If I want a curly look I use a curling wand after, but this gives me nice volume and waves. It takes a little practice to master but once you do I think you'll like it. Again your hair has be be past your shoulders or it will probably be too short, although the 1.5' may work for at shoulder length. Good luck! FYI take small sections to begin while you master using the tool with to avoid tangles and if it does tangle don't PANIC... this is why the bristles are so soft just calmly work your fingers through the bristles and your hair and it will release. I've been using mine for a decade now and I've only had it tangle a few times, usually because I was rushing and my sections were too big!

Very stiff extra hold gel. Medium round brush for the front. Comb the back fwd while wet with gel in, then roll the front back with round brush. If he has curly or wavy hair, you made need to blow the front on low setting and with low heat to pull out the front and give it the height, finish with a cool air shot, and then gel again or firm hairspray after it's dry to hold in place.

Love this hair style. One of the things I notice people do wrong a lot is they like to go back and forth with the blow dryer, which opens up the cuticles making the hair frizzy. They need to just go straight down and then bring it back up.

Thanks Brad for an interesting and well presented video. These are professional blow-dry techniques but they are also adaptable for home use. It is difficult to achieve the same result at home as a professional stylists in a salon which is why you pay us to do your hair! However, the information Brad shares regarding the brushes, the products he uses, his sectioning techniques, clipping sections to cool, and MOST IMPORTANTLY rough drying, will help you achieve better results at home. The biggest mistake most women make is starting to style while the hair is soaking wet which is just an exercise in futility. Even if you do get it to look good eventually, if the slightest bit of dampness remains your hairstyle will fall apart within an hour. Fine hair will go flat and curly hair will frizz. Rough drying will also save you SO much time on your finish, especially if you have medium to thick and/or curly hair. Clipping the hair and allowing the hair to cool down adequately is also very important for keeping body, volume and/or curl. These two tips alone will improve your results a thousand fold! I like the tip about the dry shampoo at the roots for volume, although heed his warning about less is more, and the KÉRASTASE DISCIPLINE is the crème de la crème of blow-dry sprays... expensive but worth every penny! As for your boo-hooers on the comment page... no KZfaq video will give you the skills of a professional hairstylist, but Brad clearly shares some excellent tools and techniques that will help you achieve more professional results at home. Thanks again Brad... I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

You said a lot that you thought this was boring. This is actually one of my favorites of your videos. Just like how people like to watch makeup tutorials it is nice to see a video that I can follow along with to attempt to do my hair. I would love to see more videos like this. I like any video you do really but maybe someday I'll actually try to do a blowout lol. My hair has a lot of volume and its naturally wavy to curly. I love my hair it is actually really easy to make do what I want.

to be fair, the hair type in particular that was being styled was supposed to be thin and flat. kinky hair is gorgeous when it is healthy and naturally attained, but when it shows on thin hair it can be a sign of damage, so (even though he definitely could have put it in better way) he probably meant it in more of a "let's get this particular hair type back to a healthy and more manageable state" way, and didn't consider how poorly he worded it until it was too late.

Can you make this a series?! Can you do this on perhaps a) Asian hair that is thick, course and resistant to heat, b) on African American/Mixed hair 3b or 3c curls, and c) on 4b or 4c curls ?! I can understand how to get from the point that you are able to work with the hair at the halo parting. I just don't understand how you expect 3b or higher curls, to be workable, and not a bird's nest of knots, after having been left in a towel for 20 minutes without any oils--let alone after having been blown dry without having been put into carefully conditioned and brushed sections first. I'm just confused. I must be doing something very wrong, but my head would be a rats nest, that would require scissors be taken to it, lol ;)

Thanks ladies, I will be watching the Cyn Doll video alexisreve1 =) And I do watch a large number of hair channels run by WOC. I just hadn't found a good blowout method. And as he offered, and said it was foolproof, I wanted to see. Plus, I suspect that a part of me hoped that in doing so, a larger, a both more diverse and more mainstream audience would see that our hair is not more tough, but actually requires more babying. Also, that a larger audience would see the huge amount of work that goes into producing the same styles. I thought it would be great if he did an Asian woman as well, because they don't often get access to a mainstream audience either--and I would like to know what issues they face, that my friends have not told me about.

First off, just found this channel and it is very bingeable. Subscribed. Secondly, I have long, thick hair, that's wavy (2b??) and blow drying it has always been something I do about 3x/year because it's such a hassle and never, ever, EVER comes out looking good. I'm an air-dry kind of girl. Always have been (read: little hair styling experience). Had a grad school even coming up, wanted to look a little bit on point, and decided to try this. It. Worked. Honestly, please, PLEASE do a few more of these instructional type videos! It really helps those of us who are style challenged but still have to look good for events!

HOLY CRAP! I never knew how many things I was doing CORRECT! I was honestly winging it the entire time!! LOL The dry shampoo, the pulling the hair forward thing, the moisturizer at the tips, the 90% dry rule... I never knew that was ACTUALLY the technique! I guess that's why I'm never satisfied if my hair stylist doesn't do all of those steps in the blowout.

same! I used to have hair down to my midback and the only thing that kept the frizz at bay was putting it into a ponytail. Once I'd spent two hours curling it only for it to fall flat within 10 minutes. I eventually had to cut it short so I could get *some* kind of non-frizzy volume.

I think you should do more cosmetology based tutorials, I really like these videos. I think that they would really bring up views too. I love you and your videos, but I do think that some of the titles and thumbnails are kind of made to be click bait( not saying your the only one doing that on KZfaq). But I feel like you should also open up to ur audience. We only know you as the male hairstylist who revamps wigs, reacts to viral hair flops, antm, or whatever. I really want to know WHO Brad Mondo is, what's the back story of why you choose this career, was it always easy, what were the struggles you had as a kid, worst and best salon experiences,a Q&A video, where do you want to go from here, etc. I feel like I'd really like to feel more connected to you and your videos. Again this is not hate but just my perspective as a viewer who's been subscribed for almost 2yrs now💕love you

Back in the day, women went to the hairdresser about once a week, often just to get a good blow out. But it wasn't just for regular hair maintenance. The hairdresser was where you went to for counseling, for the cleansing ritual of gossip, to catch up on what was happening in your community. The hairdresser's was the social center! Yes, it's convenient to do your own hair care at home, bustling about getting it done before work. But wasn't it nice to go into the salon, sit and visit with a friend, chat with the hairdresser about what was happening, complain about your husband/kids/work/needed house or appliance repairs...I think we have lost a necessary social network.

I thought of this video while blowing out my hair tonight and omg this really helped!!! Some other things I noticed!!!!! -Make sure your hairbrush has no hair buildup on it!!! I had some when I tried last time and gave up 5 minutes in LOL; you want the hair to run all the way through the brush. -The halo sectioning really does work. I used a boar bristle brush and it gave me a ton of volume but I wanted some curl so I guess I need to invest in a ceramic brush.
