This work, opus 24, consists of 25 short variations followed by a monumental fugue. Simone Pedroni is shown playing it as part of his semi-final program during the 1991 GPA Dublin International Piano Competition.

Incredibly beautiful the best understanding of interplay of melody and accompaniment. Beautiful shadings, lilting tone, perfect pacing and so many interpretive surprises within acceptable parameters Gorgeous articulation this will be my go to interpretation for this piece that I am currently studying but can only record on midi due to ongoing disabilities. This performance is better than many in terms of The human sentiment of expression unlike so many big names that sound like machines or robots This interpretation for my ears is actually divine.

What a sweet, tender-hearted interpretation! I love most of the individual, intensely lyrical touches. Not most virtuosic reading, perhaps -- a little skittish, perhaps, in some of the most challenging passages -- bur powerful enough to get the idea across. The fugue would benefit from a more majestic tempo. Listen to Balint Vaszonyi for prime example serene majesty. That aside I love the fervor of this performance.

I love how much a person can memorize. 30 minutes of music, one piece.. I wonder how he studied this.. :)

Yes, the lyrical variations are a delight. Oddly, though, Pedroni seems to forget about lyricism in the forceful ones, and the fugue, which are simply ... well, forceful (I wouldn't have said 'skittish'). Shouldn't these too by lyrical? Listen to, for example, Petri or Sebok to hear how this can be done. For an ideal combination of forcefulness and lyricism, though, Emanual Ax is your man.

Many fine details, and unique insights createmuch of interest, but the frankly schizoid, Jekyll-Hyde interpretation is a iltlte too rich for my taste. The hghly exaggerated contrasts between extreme introspection and flamboyant extroversion become tedious after a while. An interesting but ultimately unsuccessful interpretation.
