Braintree, Essex【4K】| Town Centre Walk 2021

Join me for a walk around the delightful town centre of Braintree, located in the great county of Essex! With a history dating back thousands of years, from the Iron Age, Roman era, medieval period and modern day, there's a lot to see in this unusually-named town.
As we walk around Braintree, we pass a number of interesting sights, including Braintree Town Hall, Market Place, The Swan Pub, The White Hart, Pig's Head In The Pottage Pott Gant, George Yard Shopping Centre, High Street, Young Boy with Beavers and Sea Lions, St. Michael's Church, Warner Textile Archive and Braintree Town Hall again.

I was born in Braintree and still live here 71 years later. This is a good video, but a little out of date, showing the town when it was in a mess due to the construction work on the pedestrianisation of the High Street and the COVID restrictions. Visitors to the town today will find a totally pedestrianised High Street and no "Keep Left" system in George Yard. We also have a new bus interchange.

Born and bred in Braintree back in the 60s. Great memories spent through to a couple of years ago. Moved away but not far away. Will always be my town.

Thanks for uploading this video. Having only lived down the road from Braintree, i've never ventured into the town centre and never realised there was so much history. Keep the videos coming. Cheers Travelling Everard

@@LetsWalkUK Braintree is my home town. I was born at WJC maternity unit. It has been levelled now and has houses on the site. I am 44 years old and only moved out of Braintree for the first time around 10 months ago. I am only 10 minutes away in a village called Barnston. Thanks for the video, boss.

Love Braintree! Was there for almost 3 years. Small beautiful town, just 1 hour from London (Stratford station).

Thanks for this video! I grew up in Braintree (in Chelmer Road Nr. Alec Hunter High School), lived there from 1977 to 1993, even ran a pirate radio station there called Sound FM in 1992! Amazing place and time back in the 80's and 90's with many precious memories! Braintree has an incredible history that I did not realize until you mentioned all of this!

Hello, used to live there also, 18 mersea fleet way, went to Alec Hunter High sch in the 80's, a beautiful place, now in Ghana, West Africa.

@@jospehineayitey3692 Cool! I lived at 3 chelmer road, I went to alec too from 1983 to 1988! you might remember my radio station "sound FM" i ran around 1992! I remember people like, april and tony rank, darren and bubsy smith, tina steel, and so many more!!! wow west africa! what a move! cool! :)

any chance of doing something similar for some of the nearby villages? I grew up in Gosfield and have long thought the Essex countryside to be much under-rated. It was a beautiful area to spend a childhood.

You didn't mention how Braintree was a cattle market and show the trough where the cattle used to drink. In the 18 hundreds.

I world rank britain As the western world's 3rd country in terms of architectural heritage, just behind Italy and Spain, over Greece, France and Egypt given britain's well preserved, vast and in some cases second to none medieval, gothic, Georgian, Victorian, brutalist or contemporary built heritage. There's a lot of diversity over history to see! I don't know quite as much about other countries' architectural heritage (though I'd love to find out more in the future), but it always makes me happy to see old buildings preserved in Britain :) Thanks for watching and commenting as always - I hope you enjoyed the video!
