Thanks for making this instructional video on how to flush your own brakes solo! I got the same bleeder bottle years ago and I'm just now starting to do it myself instead of leaving it to mechanic shops. I have a spill-free funnel from back when I changed out the coolant, might use that to just keep the master brake cylinder reservoir topped off.

NO air escapes around bleeder. But it enters through the bleeder threads when you unscrew it and depress the pedal. Much better to have a pump on top of the brake fluid reservoir with constant pressure. That way NO air can enter the brake system, since the pressure in the system only forces it out, never in.
@joeybuddy96
@joeybuddy96 Жыл бұрын
Can you make a video showing how to do that? I don't understand how to go about doing that and videos make it easier. I don't know how a pump wouldn't put air into the system.

@@joeybuddy96 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lduRqbiVrrqWXaM.html One man job, NO mess if you're a bit careful and NO air in the system. All you have to do is put some pressure in the pump and go to each wheel and unscrew the bleeder.

Great video. Succinct and informative. One tip, brake fluid is very caustic. You wanna put towels down to cover everything around the master cylinder and clean up your caliper wheel area from any drips as well. You dont want even a drop finding its way onto a seal or belt or rotor.

Really great video.. I purchased 5/16 OD 3/16th ID clear tubing at the hardware store. 10 cent a ft for 4ft,, I drilled a 5/16th hole in a Gatorade bottle cap and a small air hole in the cap Then I pour fluid into the bottle approx. 2 inches , slide the hose thru the hole down to the bottom of the bottle, I then put a tie strap under the cap around the tubing so it cant pull out,, I also apply a small amount of silicone Brake grease around the base of the bleeder screw to stop air entering the system. Cost with out fluid less than a buck.. This video he did is awesome, im just tossing in some extra ideas...

There is a Box Bleeder (6 point) made just for the job for about $10. It comes in SAE 5/16 - 3/8 and 8 - 10 metric, and is thin wall and deeply offset.. Alternatively, the next best wrench would be a flare nut wrench, but calipers frequently do not have enough room around the bleed nipple for this.If a person is doing any serious brake work a pair of box bleeders is a must-have.

Brooklyn Bionic Yeah your right, I've just ordered one, but my motor has ABS, and I accidentally let air get right into the system by not topping up the MC, I've bleed my brakes three times, but there still spongy, I've been told there's air in the ABS module, and I need hook it up to a computer diagnostic system to activate the pumps in the ABS, then bleed it again... It's become a right pain in the arse.. Grrrr !

@jayc4283
@jayc4283 4 жыл бұрын
when you start, best to suction out as much fluid as you can, then top off before you start bleeding, may as well get the most old stuff out as possible. Also put block under pedal so master cylinder will not travel into area it never has before, and possibly pick up internal grime that never was touched before. 1 quart should be more than enough, but not if you bleed too much at each corner. I think the system might hold 20-24 ounces. Also if you are doing a real through flush, consider pushing caliper piston in with bleeder open as a starting point, that will evacuate a lot more fluid from caliper piston, but there are risks involved in that method.

To tell you the honest truth...NO. No difference at all. But I don't think my fluid was that bad at the time I made this video... but that does'nt mean that you should'nt bleed/change yours. You might see a significant difference. Brake fluid is extra cheap. Just Do It.

mine made a huge difference after a flush, (straight from factory) then when we re did the brakes we saw the pads were not wearing evenly. they were probably not relubed correctly. Check out south main auto's method of cleaning calipers. or just replace the caliper entirely if they are too rusted, fresh lube, fresh bleed and you will notice so much more power

will this work on motorcycles? I want to do a flush and fill on my bike. did you pump the brakes before putting the tube on the bleeder valve? because as soon as you opened the valve the fluid came out into the tube. that's why im asking. or is that how it is when you open it once the tube is on?thanks!
@brooklynbionic9171
@brooklynbionic9171 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if this would work on motor bikes...do your homework on that one. But NO, I didn't pump the breaks before I started this procedure. The system will have a bit of pressure inside once your system is sealed. Fluid should start to flow automatically....pumping the break pedal just adds more pressure in the system forcing the brake fluid out.

The start says to use an open end wrench, the procedure shows using the box end. Looking at the caliper assembly of the first wheel, the guide pin boots are dirty, the abutment springs (stainless glides) look like they're distorted, not seated and have never been changed. Not service those items is why most brake pads and rotors become damaged
@brooklynbionic9171
@brooklynbionic9171 6 жыл бұрын
Your right...it was a double ended wrench and I said open ended but should've SAID box ended according to how I performed the job. Guide pins are 100% on point. I did a full rotor and pads job just before I did this brake bleed...also made a video on that. Maybe it's just a bad camera angle you were looking at. Thanks for watching..

But if the cap is not screwed back on tight when pumping brakes doesn't this push up the brake fluid to be pushed up over the top of the reservoir ,or does it not
@brooklynbionic9171
@brooklynbionic9171 6 жыл бұрын
No..pressing on the brake pedal does the exact opposite. It pulls fluid INTO the brake system not push it out. The only thing that can force fluid OUT of the system is compression of brake piston.

Hello, I know you replied on 1 of the question from the viewer stating you used almost 2 of the 12 oz bottle to bleed your brake system but does it mean these 2 bottles of new brake fluid would be enough to stay in the brake system after flushed out the old fluid from all 4 calipers? I want to make sure i have prepare enough brake fluids before I start the this project on my 2014 MDX instead of running out to get more in the middle of the job. Thank you!

Well, if you are using the Genuine OEM Honda fluid I would buy 4 bottles (Yes...Kinda Expensive) you might get a good deal on eBay. I think that will cover an entire brake system flush. But the genuine Honda fluid only comes in 12oz bottles so buy 4 just in case. If you have some left over...Great!! save it. You can also use the cheaper Prestone AS401 DOT 3 (Yellow Bottle). The Prestone fluid comes in a huge 32oz bottle so buy 2, it should be more than enough.

@rosebarnes9625
@rosebarnes9625 5 жыл бұрын
If you notice the underside of the cap has a rubber seal/diaphram that is accordianed up in the cap. That allows the seal to expand into the reservoir, allowing brake fluid to get used up without air getting into the fluid part of the reservoir. This is important since brake fluid will absorb moisture from the air. All I'm saying is you do not need to leave the cap loose when bleeding.
