FYI it is never wise to breathe in brake dust, especially because some older brake parts used to be made with asbestos. Please wear a mask if you decide to go with the canned air trick and avoid deep breaths. Yes I'm a Mom, good and informative video fellas, thank you ✌️

Yea Im up under the car, 27 year old 240SX vert. There is a junction for the rear brakes near the fuel tank so aint gonna light no fires down there. Caint turn it too hard or make yet one more hole in the chassis. So next gonna try your Co2 method. Its 35 degrees lol but hopefully this will work. Been WD40ing the $hit out of it for week, argh. Also gonna try your penetrant shown that foams the rust. Let's GOOO back to the parts store ONE MORE TIME!!! Subbed, great vid guys.

Given how reasonably priced brake lines are you could do a lot worse than replace the lot. When a vehicle gets a good bit of age on it like this one you can never be sure how it has been mis treated and bodged over the years. New brake lines,hoses and fluid means you got the confidence to know everything is good and not going to fail on you.

Very true. We are planing to update to disc brakes and so want to wait for that upgrade to change out the lines.

Thank you thank yoy thank you. The CO2/keyboard cleaner trick worked immediately. I tried vice grips, vicegrips over the flare wrench, torching it. I sprayed 3seconds of “Duster” (brand-name) gripped the hell out of the vices and it cracked!

Gee whiz, you've got to use vice-grips. It's not that big-a' deal. It happens. That's why they make different kinds of tools. When one tool doesn't work, grab the next one.

At 8:06, 'Cam' discusses brake fluid, describing it to be 'hygroscopic.' As a characteristic, this means that brake fluid readily absorbs moisture from the air. While water may lend to rusting brake lines from within, the most significant problem with water in the lines is that the fluid's pressure and temperature in the lines can lead to the boiling of any water present, at which time the water changes state from liquid to vapor, a gas. Liquids are not compressible, which is the desired characteristic for its use in hydraulics. Gases ARE compressible, however. For this reason, if there is water in your brake lines [with the potential for vaporizing] you risk the loss of braking capability. The more extreme the braking, the more likely you are to 'lose the pedal' . . . with potentially serious consequences.

you fail to mention the number one reason to change the hosr is internal collapsing and not allowing the fuih to reservoir resulting in seized brake

Line wrench’s don’t always work on a stuck brake line, even after Penetrating oil. I had to use two pairs of vise grips.

another tip : don't use synthetic on old systems. the rubber lines and seals are not rated for it. Also vise grip makes a nice pair of pliers with V notches which are great for rounded off nuts.

We prefer the locking pliers when the shoulders are rounded off. We will look in the Vice Grips. Send Jeff a part number! jford@autorestomod.com
@kevinbeuger2081
@kevinbeuger2081 4 жыл бұрын
Synthetic? Do you mean silicone brake fluid, which racers use because of it's very high boiling point? That oil does not absorb moisture, this is bad for normal driving. You want the fluid to absorb moisture otherwise any moisture that enters the system will pool in a low spot and rust out the line (and freeze in cold weather) and if the low spot happens to be in the wheel cylinder it will boil very quickly meaning no brakes.. Racers change the silicone fluid after every race so moisture is not a factor.

yeah i don,t why but i have other trucks like this on the web with spacers on them. but since the front track is wider than the the rear. i don,t see the need for spacers. unless there is something i don,t know about. not that that has never happened before. i just replaced all the brake lines and gas lines on my 67 Mustang Coupe that was a lot of fun. the fittings where rusted to the lines and would not budge know matter what. but that is all fixed now.just have to do everything else on the Mustang and my 67 f-100 swb. is there any way i can get more than 24 hrs. in a day.?

We're working on the time machine...but it be more effective as a time delay machine, well, crap, back to the drawing board. We wonder if someone put the spacers on to use a set of passenger car wheels. We feel like the truck has a passenger car 390 in it too.

Has anyone considered welding something on for non slip leverage on a rounded off nut to get it off? right now I’m looking at someone else’s failed attempt to get there beak line off... there brake line nut’s looks like skateboard wheels ( perfectly round) no grip is available at all, so to get it off I think it’s going to require some extra steps haha
