Great video Men! I'm 42 years of age. Had my priorities all screwed up in my late teens and twenties...clean up until I was thirty three. The high school I attended shut the weld shop down two years before I got there. Huge weld shop...30 foot ceiling, a dozen weld booths...just sat there. Kids vandalized everything. Smoked ciggs in the booths. Cut up cords and hoses...I wonder sometimes about how many lives were pissed away due to a decision made by alleged authorities to "save" money...and who is this "dollar" ?? And why are we trying so hard to "save" him??? You guys ...please keep on teaching! We need more like you three. Willing to pass along knowledge. Happy welding!

Excellent video. Here is a little trick. When you get your hole cut in the runner some people might call this the header portion of the branch, clean it up and get it all shiny. Then for one final step take a cone grinder and radius the inside of the cut (the portion of the edge where your bead needs to tie into on the inside of the pipe). By making a radius on this it will all but guarantee you a full penetration root pass because it won’t allow visible edges to remain. A big bust (fail the weld test) for welders is when the inspector can see edges on the inside. If you radius the edge you leave no square edges to for the inspector to see. This might be hard to understand but just ask and I’ll try to clear it up.

Best explanation & demo of the best & proper way to perform a layout & fit up, for a Pipeline Branch Test! If these youngsters can’t grasp the concept of how to go about implementing & practicing the proper way on taking a Branch Test…..Then they have ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS, doing so! I wish I would have had this process laid out & explained to me, this clearly from the jump! Would have saved me a ton of time & heartbreak/heartache in the beginning! Great job guys! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 🏆

I like your vid. I call what y'all as the "short method." One job I was on, we needed a lateral branch. 12" on 12" on a 45. I layed it out in the long method at home. Brought the pattern in. Worked perfectly.

Never welded anything ever but that was awesome! Going to use the same technique on 18” corrugated culvert pipe …

High level pipefitters. We studied the development of connections between large pipes in the first year of engineering.

I use a tape measure EVERY DAY at my job. I was like, “Why are these guys burning 12 instead of 10?” We measure strictly in inches rather than feet. I never noticed the 1,2,3… inch markings after 12. Great video guys!

I’ve always put a 1/16 gap before I cut the horizontal piece because once you put the gap the ears are shorter than the mark if you don’t gap it first
