Bethany, .. .I can completely understand how life can beat one down. It happens to all of us, some more than others. You didn't ask for my advice so I won't share that. But I will share that I keep bags of potatoes, rice, and pasta in my home. I boil one of the three, throw some veggies into the water the last 3 minutes of cooking, drain it and eat (after adding spice or sauce of something). It's very simple and can be made in 1/2 hr. . . . whenever I'm hungry. And this can be done in a hotel room with an instapot . . . .just ask Chef AJ :-) So keep it simple and stay the course, one day at a time. We're all rooting for ya! Hang tight!

I make pintos up from scratch and then blend them with my hand-held blender stick with some taco seasoning and it becomes the basis for our burritos and tacos. Along with fresh salsa which I enjoy with pineapple daily, constipation is no problem. But I do go frequently but it takes no time to go. I have found that I grab my ankles and it means I go really fast. I drink loads of fluids, like peach tea which has no caffeine and we eat loads of vegetables and do oatmeal for breakfast. Eat an apple a day. Since I’ve been doing this I am sleeping better too. At 69, I take no meds. And have loads of energy. Way to go, Dr. McDougall. I love you and Mary and Chef AJ!!!!!

Thank you Bethany for sharing your story. I too have Rheumatoid Arthritis and complex PTSD and stress definitely has an immediate negative effect on my health. I’ve only been doing McDougall diet for a few months and also have IC so I eat VERY simply now. Brown rice, lentils, beans and vegetables or potatoes, sweet potatoes and fresh parsley herbs and vegetables and oatmeal and fruit. Thankfully I don’t get bored eating the same things over and over and live in an RV so the simpler the better for me! I feel like it’s helped so I really pray you will see improvement in your health soon! 🙏

HLA-B27 is found in about 6% of the U.S. population. People with HLA-B27 have an increased likelihood of developing autoimmune diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis (AS), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), reactive arthritis (of which one subset is Reiter syndrome), and isolated acute anterior uveitis. My younger sister and I tested positive for HLA-B27. My younger sister has uveitis and Graves disease. I have NO symptoms. I am WFPB vegan and my sister is a serious carnivore!!! Don't take your health for granted. My father died from Crohn's Disease - a very painful death....... I'm forever thankful to Dr. McDougall - I eat enormous amounts of food and love every morsel. I'm a runner and am grateful for every day. My WFPB vegan lifestyle is responsible for my symptom-free life.

We were shocked to hear Dr. McDougall say that he doesn't recommend screening colonoscopies! Of course this is because our doctors recommend them every 10 years starting at age 50. My husband's last colonoscopy discovered several polyps which were removed and we are awaiting pathology. When polyps are discovered they recommend screening colonoscopies more often like every 3 to 5 years. I think we might like Dr McDougall to expand his talk on why he doesn't think colonoscopy screenings are a good "proactive healthcare" move.

I listened to part 1 of this lecture and learned so much. I was diagnosed with Barrett’s disease last month. No symptoms just chest pain which sent me to ER. No heart issues. 6 months ago I retired and decided to make life changes. I gave up sugar and flour. I felt so good I took it a step further with plant based lifestyle. I lost 30 lbs and have 30 more to loose. My question is “ Can Barrett’s disease be reversed?” Is the tissue gone forever like my Thyroid Hashimoto’s? Love your lectures. Thank you.

Could we please get the research reference regarding the EPA/DHA supplements? I know you all are laughing at us people who have listened to people like the Sherzai docs and Dr. Fuhrman and also Dr. Greger……. But some of us have had multiple family members die horrible deaths from Alzheimer’s Disease. I helped care for my own Dad for 4 years. His mom suffered from this as well. When you go through this it’s hard not to listen to the respected docs who say we need a certain Omega 3 level….. and yet I really respect Dr. McDougall too! It feels a little bad to be laughed at. I know you often mention that people are emailing you frequently all the time about this. It is because some highly respected docs are saying something different and people like me have both watched in horror the tremendous suffering of our parents and loved ones- and because we are scared of getting AD ourselves. We are willing to do what is right. Asking questions shouldn’t be seen as disrespect. Again I really want to see the research review paper referenced by Dr. McDougall. Also I want to know if I am harmed by 250 mg of vegan algae EPH/DHA in Dr. McDougall’s view. I always feel bad when I am laughed at- like those of us who are reading and studying all the best plant based doctor’s works and trying hard to understand how to prevent dreaded diseases that are in our family- like we are stupid. People have many motivations for following a plant based diet that go beyond being thin and having a good appearance and having general good health and helping animals and the environment- though these are all great reasons! Preventing brain diseases is a major factor for me. Thanks for all you do. I watch you and buy your books for the same reasons I do the same with The Sherzais, Dr. Greger, Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Barnard and the Esselstyns….I happen to be one person with a strong desire to understand this particular question about DHA….. and I know that Dr. Klapper and Dr. McDougall are not recommending supplements. I want to know if it is their best judgment, their personal clinical experience or scientific data that they are basing the recommendations. That’s why I got so excited when Dr. McD. Mentioned a scientific review.

If you mean that you have been eating a McDougall Diet since 3 Jan 2022 and have gained weight, I would recommend reading "The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss, " especially Chapter 6, and following its counsel to the letter. You are probably eating too many calories and not enough of the foods "to the left of the line" in the Caloric Density Chart. Chapter 6 in the book tells you exactly how to refine your eating technique to lose weight and keep it off. I lost 74lbs over 16mos and have maintained that loss for almost 3yrs now. If you've gained weight you need to analyze exactly what you are eating--what type of food and how much--so that you can begin to see weight melt away. Your stats for weight are not meaningful without gender, age, height, and activity factored in, however. One can gain weight on WFPB if one is overeating and/or eating high-fat and/or high calorie whole foods such as soy, avocado, seeds, nuts, bread, pasta, or overeating fruit. Continued success with your WFPB way of eating as you refine your approach.

I would not be so upset with this if I didn’t calculate every lick, bite, and taste that goes in my mouth! I wouldn’t feel so frustrated! I watch chef aj and I do what she says - 2lbs of greens a day. I will have one fruit and rice or potato I’m very simple. On Eating You Alive there was a trainer who taught his wife how to eat and she ate more than ever and was the best size she ever was - would love that trainer but that costs $$$$$

Its very hard to view these older vegans, they are so frail. Very osteoporoatic. I worry about all your bones and muscle . all the food you all eat turns to sugar the thing your trying to avoid. I hope you'll consider getting healthy amino acids in your system. And all work out to gain muscle. Good quality animal protein helps much better with food addiction.
