I'm so grateful you shared your Oz trip with us. 🤗💕😘 I'm home alone, sick on Christmas. My boyfriend had to step out for a while for his family dinner/festivities, obviously, so I have quite a few hours alone to just rest, and watch things. I too am an avid lover of all things Oz, and will ALWAYS be shocked by the fact that it was produced in the 30s, yet was soooooooo ahead of its time. Almost scarily so. Even w/all the CGI, special effects we have today, etc the movie still holds up to generation after generation as far.as "watchability". Its just that fascinating and wonderful.

I remember when I was a child I was so afraid of the flying monkeys that I would jump up and hide my eyes in my Grandmom’s chest. Just seeing those flying baboons gives me flashbacks.

Loved the SyFy Tin Man series when it came out. I had almost forgotten about it.

Yes, there was a second "Tin Man" -- the Tin Soldier. The Tin Woodsman (Nick Chopper) became Tin a piece at a time, as his enchanted axe kept chopping bits of him off. The tinsmith who built the replacement pieces for Nick (eventually making him completely metal) performed the same service for the Tin Soldier. He also kept most of the original parts of both of them -- eventually, he built a third man from a few of the leftovers, and some more Tin. The OZ stories are creepier than you know. There is a short passage where the Tin Woodsman meets his original head again, when he visits his old friend the Tinsmith.

I had one of those talking view-masters. You weren't missing anything. They had very short recorded strips along side the pictures and the thing broke pretty easily. Not very sturdy design. They were a fad that didn't catch on compared to the basic visual-only ViewMasters.

Had the talking view master in blue. The film strip disk had a plastic record on the back of it and when you squeezed the white button on the back a lift would come on and the record would spin. As you went scene to scene the record would advance the story.

I still love Oz/dig old-school story/movie-related merch. Rec'd my 1st illustrated hardcover thru Mississippi cousin circa-1970; something to read in rear of station-wagon atop sleeping bag w/my Fluffy dog on drive home to WV. Still have, but years/use wore binding/loosened cover depleting value. No matter; childhood memories of accompanying Dorothy's adventures while summer landscape rushed by & hot air blew thru open windows, as Daddy navigated backroads: straight/flat becoming winding/mountainous (no a/c or interstate yet) are what's priceless to me anyway. Thanx 4 reminding me, CB!

#TheCarpetbagger , I had a talking viewmaster. It was the standard reel, with a hard plastic record type disc on it. The one I had was a bit larger than the one shown, however . There are a couple of them shown on KZfaq, including a lovely Bugs Bunny one with figures, rather than frames from cartoons. Also, have you heard Dark Side Of The Moon paired with the Wizard Of Oz?

I own a complete set of the Kurt S Adler Oz Nutcrackers. They seem to be missing The Scarecrow. They're a centerpiece of my Nutcracker collection took forever to complete because I only got Dorothy and Scarecrow when i was young so I had to search for The Cowardly Lion and The Tim Woodsman later on.

Hi Carpetbagger, the Tinman wearing glasses is actually next to Dorothy and the Scarecrow. In the book series, the emeralds of the Emerald City are so bright that they would blind them, so they wear emerald glasses while in the city in the book series. :)

Pretty cool museum! Those Wizard of Oz “Barbie dolls” were by Mego, who also did the Superfriends ones. I had those Wizard of Oz ones plus the Emerald City play set, when I was a kid in the 70’s. I still have some of the dolls minus some lost accessories. I can tell you that the Dorothy and Glinda ones this museum have are not their original dresses, but, whatever! Fun museum with some great old memorabilia!

The wiz. Is my favorite. Between Ted Ross as the lion (loved his voice). Or the “biker” flying monkeys (who smelled bad). I am probably one of the few that actually liked it better than the wizard of oz. loved the music. And the flying monkeys scared me in the movie I used to think that they were coming to get me. Lol
