Aiyuk wants to go to DC and play with his boy, as he should... but the Niners don't care about that. Hopefully, he decides to play out the final year of his contract (seeing as how SF doesn't want to trade him), and assuming they don't franchise tag him, then he controls his own future. I'd rather the Commanders not give up the haul to get him.

I understand requesting a trade, but what does the "official" part mean? Is there some contractual or collective bargaining implication in making it "official"?

Basically it’s just a confirmation from the player and team that the player has requested a trade also it basically reduces the amount teams have to give up because now that they know for sure that player wants out they won’t have to give up as much as they would have to if he didn’t formally request a trade

@@mattycampy no because the niners will have to franchise tag him if they can’t get a trade done so really yes u r somewhat correct because if a team really wants him now they will still have to move heaven and earth for him but teams could also just play the waiting game and wait till he’s a free agent so they won’t have to trade anything for him and just straight up sign him it really depends on the team cuz for example if a team thinks they can win now with what they have and aiyuk pushes them over the top obviously they will be willing to move a good amount to get him rn but if Washington comes knocking u best believe they r not giving up much because they r clearly in a rebuild either way my comment was really speaking from a general standpoint not aiyuk in particular

The Niners have been making space for Aiyuk and Purdy. Purdy's extension is coming up next year. QB' contracts are the biggest so they have been restructuring contracts toprepare for Purdy's extension.
