Even Robb, who's undoubtedly a military genius, relied on cunning outside the box strategies to win his greatest victories. Unlike Jaime, Tywim expects an armee; unlike Jaime, Tywin wouldn't blindly rush after a bait; unlike Jaime, Tywin is already in position waiting for an armee he knows is on the way. Best case scenario, Jon and his advisers manage an orderly retreat after a short battle with as few casualties as possible. The Lannister armee simply is superior during that battle in terms of troops. I will grant you that in this scenario, Roose would not be able to sacrifice Stark loyalists by putting them in the front lines, at least. There is no scenario in which the North marches south that doesn't have Balon invade the North. On this point, I'm willing to hear out counter arguments, but nothing I have seen in discussion about this very topic during the last decade ever made a convincing argument for such a change of heart, so I'm not holding my breath. Jon didn't only play an important role in defending the Wall during the attack of the free folk-a role I will admit could possibly be taken by another competent commander-but also was essential in warning Castle Black of the ambush tnag preceeded the attack. Similarly, without the great ranging, the Night's Watch might very well not even get a forewarning about the attack. They knew there was *something* going on north of the Wall, but no one was expecting a full scale invasion. Three hundred men more or not, the Night's Watch wouldn't be able to stand against such a surprise attack from both sides. Perhaps Stannis still arrives to save the Wall, but even if he does, odds are he will be too late-though I suppose a timely warning from Millissander might have him set sail early.

It has never been tested however, weirwood arrows have done and do do some things that regular arrows can’t. Pierce impenetrable armors. Travel further and faster and many many other things. But they are in short supply because to get them, you gotta cut weirwood trees and that’s a no no. So they only are used in single operations. But I do wonder what would be the effect of a swarm of weirwoid arrows falling from the sky on armies would look like. Or if the game would be changed and the notion of staying out of the reach of their arrows would be possible. No one ever faced a swarm of weirwood arrows before and they do travel further and faster. So can they shape the battle and change the game but they perform way way better and kill much quicker. One hit to man or beast alike and they go down asap. Nothing don’t survive being hit by those arrows you are as good as dead

Assuming he managed to kill the 3 Targs and no one manage to bond with the dragons again, then these dragons would be loose over Westeros, doing as they please. Think Reign of Fire but in an actual medieval setting.

Tis easier to kill free dragons than a dragon with rider. The rider can know if someone is shooting him or her with scorpion bolt. Wild dragons won't be thinking much. Plus, it might happen that they go back to Valyria as Balerion once went there

the practical answer is that Aegon and his crew weren’t stupid, so they always kept the dragons nearby, at least until the conquest ended and the Kingsguard was formed.
